Harnser
I am a oiled walnut and blued barrel man . Never had the yen for a cammo or plastic stock . I actually think that they look ugly and cheap and spoil the looks of gun . I suppose I am a traditionalist. How do you like yours ? Penelope
I'm with you, two barrels juxtaposed over superimposed, with the exception of a single with a hammer, under lever and taking cannon shells. birdsallpl
I enjoy both to be honest. My workhorse gun is browning gold camo plastic. I use it for crop protection and Wildfowling, I rarely clean it because I could well be using it again next day. On the other hand I have an 8 bore PD Malloch which I cherish, I have a custom hard case for it and look after it like a baby. I only ever shoot it in Scotland and even then not if it is likely to rain. After every use it is cleaned and polished. I have a number of other guns which I do look after better than my Browning but not as well as my
andrew f
Nice wood on a rifle. I don't really fuss about my shotguns to much since I don't do much of it during the winter
fenboy
I much prefer wood a blued , but I did buy a synthetic stocked gun for the marsh it is much easier to just be able to wash it down.

kiffy
to me their a tool to do a job so looks are not huge factor but obviously we do like them to look nice and i do like to look after my guns no matter what finish they have i do prefer to see a gun thats been looked after rather than a gun thats pretty i have a semi auto in camo and before that had two semi's in black synthetic and their perfect for the job as their finish is more robust than wood for the conditions i use them in. i do have a couple of wood stocked guns and my trap gun with a half decent grade of wood does look nice, when it comes to the finish on wood i do prefer it stained a nice dark colour compared to the lighter ones... helps if the woods not a brilliant grade as well im not a romantic traditionalist where their concerned and although i dont use it that much and never have used it that much there is something about a side by side that i do like. welshwarrior
Walnut and blued for me, but can see why plastic and coating tick boxes for others.

Harnser
I also like to see nice engraving on a decent gun . Game Scenes and rose and scroll on English game guns . Some of the engraving I have seen on some of the top English guns is a beauty in its self and a work of art . I love it . Harnser

shootgun
I like my shotguns oiled wood and blued barrels and my rifles synthetic stainless.
Scully
Whatever appeals really. I have a shotgun with stunning wood but no engraving whatsoever, just a plain action, and another with very nice wood and quite lavish engraving, and another with plain wood and plain black action. A Beretta I owned had very nice wood but again, a plain black action. I also have autos and pumps with plain wood and plain actions, and don't actually like engraving on an auto action, and think the stamped floral embellishments on some looks like a cheap after-thought. I think if I had the money to choose bespoke engraving, there would be very little, if any. Both my rifles are synthetic, which is why I chose them, but have also owned synthetic stocked shotguns before. Totally practical.
69chris
i love plain, black plastic guns, perhaps its coz, apart from airguns when i was a kid, my 1st experience of 'real' guns were 7.62 slr's and the memory is still amazingly vivid so be it c/f, r/f or shotguns - gimme cheap tacky plastic anyday
strangford wildfowler
I am quite fond of a sbs 30" tubes blued of course and a nice oiled bit of walnut, with nice engraving on the sideplates
Cambsman
Hate plastic. Much prefer nice bit of dead tree. Especially in my rifles. Tikka T3Lite in placcy? Yuk. Yuk. Yuk. Horrid soulless bendy wobbly thing. Why oh why? Gonna get my hat on now. Tin obviously. Only cos I can't get one in wood.......
