pigeonslayer15
Sorry I dont mean to sound like im boasting, I just wouldn't mind knowing everyone else feels Sorry shotgun!
fenboy
What really matters is that each person shoots within his own limits for some that may be 60 yards and others it may be 25 - 30 yards. I too am a confident shot but I would prefer to shoot birds at 30 than those at
39TDS
Sorry I dont mean to sound like im boasting, I just wouldn't mind knowing everyone else feels Sorry shotgun! I didn't think you were, I just couldn't help myself. Distance makes no difference to me, I can't hit the damned things anyway.
pigeonslayer15
Of coarse I would prefer to shoot them at around 25 to 30 yards to ensure a clean kill, I was just asking to sre what peoples comfort zones were
yickdaz
depends on what kind of shot presents itself on the day most birds are witihin 25 to 40 yards decoying with the odd long second barrel but flighting they are 35 to 50 yards horses for courses I suppose I will take on long range shots all day long and be confident of bringing them down Edited November 8, 2014 by yickdaz

JBS
A lot of folk need a new tape measure Agreed, the amount of people that I hear say "that was 60-70 yards" when in real terms it was more like 60-70 FEET Edited November 8, 2014 by JBS
kyska
Close as possible for me, I'll take higher shots if I'm confident they'll drop somewhere the dog can find them, over drilling for example.
motty
May I ask what chokes you have in your gun to take shots at 25 and 60 yards? If it were me, 3/4 or full would be the answer.

My view is that you should consider pellet density at that range, unless you are G Digweed and use extra full, it ain't likely to make regular clean kills at that range, there are not enough pellets. As someone else said.by a tape measure..
JDog
Ever the sceptic I was fairly disinterested in your posts after reading that you had shot nearly 4000 pigeons in the last three months I now read that you can consistently kill sixty yard birds. As victor meldrew would say 'i don't believe it'.

marsh man
35 metres or there abouts I am not very bright " birdsallpl " but I think you will find 60yds is nearer to 54 meters. 35 meters is around 115ft ...... and 60yds is 180ft ....Quite a difference

Smiler23
I'm new to shooting, if I dropped a bird at 40 yards, it's been an unlucky bird not a good shot haha, at the moment I'm missing many more birds than I'm hitting, I'm reducing my range to30 and below for a shot now until I get a better hit ratio,

Guest stevo
I dont know why people get hung up about how taking long shots means your a better pigeon shot .... imho if your always taking your birds at 45-60 yards . Then personally you need to take a serious look at you decoying practices . Because your doing something wrong . A good decoyer can get his bird into a good sensible range 25 -35 yards consistently . .. That is where the true skill lies
