AberFowl
How long do you hang your geese/ducks before you prep and cook them?
fenboy
I dont , I prep them the same day , I dont think fowl benefit from hanging like game.
Wildfowler12
I don't hang them either. Mine go in the fridge when I get home, and are prepped the following day.
oxfordfowler
Same here - dealt with and in the freezer/pan the next day
motty
Mine go in the fridge when I get them home. It can be anything up to a month before they are dealt with. I don't know if this improves them or not, but they are certainly not worse for it.
JDog
Wild fowl is not game and it should not be hung for any length of time as toxins can be produced in the gut which are really not good for the human digestion system. birdsallpl
A few days in a chilled environment won't do them any harm in my experience. In the shed in Dec, Jan is a suitable chilled environment.
pestcontrol1
garage for a day then dressed out and pan or freezer
guy baxendale
I don't like any game hung so mind are done asap. Freezing meat breaks down the fibres of the meat as well but the key is the cooking.
m greeny
Mostly done the same day if on the morning flight or the next day at the latest
Fal
Fridge over night to cool them, either frozen or eaten the day after. I never hang any duck.
anser2
Like most on here I prepare wildfowl within a day or two of shooting depending on the weather. In September all my fowl go into a fridge as soon as possible and delt with the next day ( grass feeding geese can go off within hours in warm weather ). But in cold weather I am happy to hang birds in the shed for several days - 6 at the most.
wildfowlingmad
I've been warned before about steel shot in the birds rusting if you leave them to long, anyone think there's anything in that?.I usually leave them for 2 or 3 days (except early season). If the ducks have been eating grain/seeds that's fine, if they smell a bit fishy (due to diet) probably better not to let it taint the meat. anser2
I have heard that too , but never found any rusty steel in a bird yet.
Richie10
i would be more worried about lead than a bit of rust.

aister
I usually hang my birds 2 days but it can be less time early on in the season or more late on when its colder. When its freezing out side I have seen birds hanging a week. I don't think it makes much difference, taste wise, how long fowl is hung for. marsh man
If my dog brought one of them back I would have to ask on here how do you prepare them before plucking , as my memory only go back 40yrs, or do you just eat the breasts? .
