JDog
I have seen lurchers like this one killed and thrown into a ditch by the travelling community if they weren't up to the job of bringing down deer. I had one case last year. The local sensible policeman was in the village and I asked him if he wanted to see the recently dead dog. When he got there and saw it he was shocked at the sheer size of it and so was I. He then ruined a perfectly sensible conversation up to that point by asking if we should check to see if it had a micro chip! Fat chance. FalconFN
Scale is hard to measure but looking at the shadow and grass size it looks far too small for a lurcher, and the skull is too short and thick set as well. As said, the pads would confirm badger.

We found a bull greyhound wondering around on the fields a couple of week back when getting it to us all it's face was covered in scares so been a badger or fox dog. Greenhunter
My thought is Patterdale or similar. Back legs too long for a badger I would have thought. GH
fieldwanderer
With teeth like that, whatever it was I think I'd rather be near it in the state you found it than when it was alive!
Penelope
They cross them with pitbull/staffs to get the size, power and aggression to take deer. That could explain the teeth size and squatter skull. On a gravel pit that I fished a few years ago, there was a chap that had two Pitbull/Saluki/Greyhound lurchers, (mother & son) and the dog in particular was huge and fast. I have seen lurchers like this one killed and thrown into a ditch by the travelling community if they weren't up to the job of bringing down deer. I had one case last year.
