islandgun
Simple unfussy produce that is cooked very well always works for me. Even better if cooked and consumed outside. I am one of those terrible people who just doesn't like seafood and it is a source of massive frustration, so in reading some of the comments above of fresh caught fish and cooked almost immediately I am very envious. grr you could try a bit of fresh tuna cooked like steak and work your in from there Spooky. Two of my best ever meals would be mackerel caught on the beach in Criccieth in the rain at night, taken straight home, fileted and flash fried within the hour; and pizza "moitié-moitié" - with anchovy, black olives and no cheese on one half, just cheese and tomato sauce on the other - in marseille. Others would be a that-day fresh mozzarella in Naples, no 1 native oysters at Wiltons, steak at Peter Luger in Brooklyn, huge swordfish steaks for lunch landed that morning at the harbour in Marseille. I think I could go on forever. So I'll stop except for, in my long past drinking days, Yquem 88, Palmer 70 and Batham's bitter circa 1986. And fresh cockles from the Gower with salt and malt vinegar. I had some nice Bass from Llanystumdwy beach near where the Dwyfor enters the sea, I hope it remains the same, also very partial to oysters and cockles Pan fried Scallops in a garlic butter served with a warm croissent. This was in the Kishorn Fish Bar, supprisingly in Kishorn. It is not a chippie but a very nice seafood restaurant, the squat lobster is also very good Well worth a visit if you are ever up to the far north west coast of Scotland. If your ever in Harris big bad, pm me for the best seafood and seafood meals in the islands (probably)
FalconFN
As has been said before, it would be a long list but at the top would be: An amazing 5 course meal in a Italian farmers house that was cooked by his wife. We had the best ham and ricotta lasagne and boar in a rich dark olive sauce, amazing. I've just been to Prague and had duck with dumplings, beef with dumplings and pork with.....dumplings. All washed down with great beer. Fresh rod caught mackerel BBQ'd on the beach. Toast with lashings of butter and Marmite with a cup of good coffee. My wife's slow cooked chilli con carne with baked potato. I'm hungry.
keg
Steak and Kidney Pudding followed by Jam Roly Poly....Proper English Food Angel breath!! Glad you didn't say Spotted ****, hate the stuff. Suprised my mother at her caravan at Whitby one day many moons ago, went to the Magpie before it was famous and their deep fried Brie/Camenbert ( can't remember which) was ambrosial. grrclark
grr you could try a bit of fresh tuna cooked like steak and work your in from there I keep trying different things in the hope that I will find that trigger to let me enjoy seafood. I can eat non fishy fish and make a big effort to keep pushing the boundaries, but with little success :(
NickS
How much I enjoy my food depends greatly on the company. Dinner at Fera at Claridges with the family to celebrate my father in law's 80th birthday is the most recent but I have enjoyed fresh bread and cheese or a decent crab sandwich just as much. Some people's company could turn the finest food to sawdust.
Pothunter
I had some nice Bass from Llanystumdwy beach near where the Dwyfor enters the sea, I hope it remains the same There are four "new" (15 years old?) houses on the estuary side of the village which now obscure the view from my mother's house, but the estuary itself remains exactly the same as it has ever been. It is god's own country.

yates
Probably the best meals for me were the fantastic curries, rice and breads we had when touring India a couple of years ago. Also the super strength Kingfisher beers over there. Mind you it was lucky that I didn't see the state of the kitchens before eating on a couple of occasions
