belly47
afternoon all When I go night shooting with my NV I always have a head torch aswell for when walking about and for when gutting rabbits etc up till now I have had a real cheapy battery torch which is okay, but was wondering what type you guys use, as a family we are off camping on the 1st august so its a good time for me to upgrade without getting moaned at by the mrs for spending more money on shooting equipment as I will try and convince her it will be useful for camping!! so what do you use cheers p.s. I still don't want to spend loads, so looking for functional but better then a £2 throw away jobby
robbiep
I've got a brilliant little Jack Pyke baseball cap with built-in LED torch. The cap is insulated, so warm for when out night shooting, It takes 2 CR2032 (or something similar) flat batteries, and has 5 LED lights on the brim, so wherever you're looking, you see. I think it cost me £11 at a local farmers merchants. It's called a 'camo wildfowler's cap' http://www.jackpyke.co.uk/products/clothing/camo-wildfowlers-cap.aspx
kiffy
apart from my usual head torch i use when fowling ive had a cheap clip on one i put on my cap which is handy when opening gates etc while lamping, i broke it recently so bought a different one on ebay, is a whole lot better than the first one and for a couple of quid is worth every penny http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-NGT-Camo-Clip-On-LED-Fishing-Cap-Head-Light-Batteries-Included/221823867403?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D29973%26meid%3D6198cac77b484338a256b14560351da9%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D321779916269#ht_410wt_1037

cromwell7
Petzl are the best I've used in my opinion, you pay a little more but they are very rugged and waterproof
arjimlad
Alpkit Gamma is my favourite. Great after sales support too, with spares etc freely dispatched even 2 years later. https://www.alpkit.com/products/gamma
fortune
I use a Clulite. It runs on 3 AA bats which can be rechargeables and has 3 light functions it is focusable from a tight beam to flood. High power low power and flash and coloured leds also for signalling the point beam is so good that it will put a tight beam across a 2 hundred yard field so it can be used for night shooting. I use one every day in my work and the batts last for a long time. The only slight problem that I have had is that the battery compartment lugs are a bit plastic and I did have one break off which is the end of the road for the unit because you cant hold the lid onto the batteries to make a connection. panoma1
Have a look at Unilite rechargeable....expensive but very good, as manufacturers they went above and beyond to rectify a small issue.....I couldn't fault unilites customer service! Truly first class!

robbiep
Seriously, the Jack Pyke one (built into a cap) I've suggested is fantastic. I know of a RFD who has started stocking them because he saw mine, and 4 or 5 horse owners who've bought them too. Battery life is fantastic in that I've had mine over a year, and it's still on the original batteries. As it takes 2 'flat' 2p-sized batteries, the battery compartment is built into the padded side of the hat, and you don't even know it's there. Whitebridges
Led Lenser for me. Handheld torches, Headlamps and you can get a kit ( with lens filters) that fits easy peasy on a scope. Ideal for a rimfire. I've never had one that's gone poop. We used to use lamps like Colemans and Hipolito's ( not forgetting Tilley ) on the beach. I think these are a little out of date now. Yes head lamps are so good nowdays you seldom see a pressure lamp , only draw back is you cannot heat a pie on a LED !

Pothunter
Perhaps not quite bright enough for lamping, but easily so for camping, these have the andvantage of being very small and light (only 1 battery, though seems to last quite well), and quite well made. http://www.gerbergear.co.uk/Survival/Lights/Bear-Grylls-Hands-Free-Torch_31-001028
Salop Matt
The only thing putting me off the Alp kit is that it doesnt do rechargables. ATB Matt
