Underdog
What is your average range of the last five foxes you shot? Mine was; 90+60+60+50+60=320÷5=64 paces. Mixed woodland and farmland, pasture and arable. It may be an interesting result! U.

robbiep
Cage traps, it's inches from the end of the barrel ! Shotgun, I'm usually waiting on their routes, so 5-25 yards. 22RF is chance foxes, no more than 50 yards, unless I'm really happy with the placement. 223 I've never needed to go for a shot longer than 85 yards. Bit of a waste zeroing at 100 metres, I suppose ! Ignoring traps, 4 my last 5 have all been with shotgun. I'd say 25, 15, 10 (a cub), 15 and 40 (22RF on NV) yards, giving a (probable) average of 21 yards.

Underdog
So far the average looks to be under 100 yds!
henry931
Can't remember exactly but roughly closest at 120 yards, furthest around 250 yards. So about 180 yards on average. Big open arable fields.
Dekers
Personally I don't specifically know, but close(ish). There have been a number of polls on this subject over the years and it has been clearly shown the vast majority of fox are shot under 100 yards. I seldom take them past 100 yards and very rarely need to past 200 yards. Which of course raises some interesting questions re peoples perception of this classic gem "dedicated fox rifle".
Dougy
UD I will range the ones I shoot these coming weeks with my "dedicated fox rifle" (as in only shoot fox's with it) It's one that has the scope too far forward to be comfortable shooting it in daylight. It's my NV rig. Therefore it's "dedicated"
drut
Most of mine in 90-120yd range on grazing land + the odd 25-40yd shot in one small wood that I shoot.

robbiep
I doubt you'll find many foxes shot past 300 yards, for the simple reason that you've got to have one hell of a vantage point and be very lucky to see foxes at that distance. As I've said, a lot of my foxes are taken when I've had a chance to scout out terrain, learn their routes, and then just sit in wait for them. I quite regularly doze off on a nice summer's evening while tucked into a hedgerow, if I've got the sun on me. Usually if that happens I only wake up when the sun is going down and the chill starts to settle on the ground. At which point I give it another 30 minutes, and then give up, coming back out the next day !

WelshMike
I would say my average sits at around the 80 yard mark. The last 5 were about 70-120 yards. The closest in the last 12 months was 5 yards with the 12 bore and the furthest around the 200 yard mark with the .243.
powler
Last three were with shotgun probaly average of 15yrds. Siting down in thick cover in the early hours and calling them in. Mick
