pigeon controller
What a wet weekend , I was so wet at times I thought I was turning into an inhabitant of Norfolk as I could see and feel the skin starting to bridge between my toes and fingers. It could help me swimming ?? Picked up DB as normal at 09.00 and we headed out to the field of cut maize we could not shoot last week , when we arrived we scanned the fields and could see about fifty birds down with crows on the rest of the field but nothing joining and no flightline to it . We went to get DB a bacon and egg sarnie and we watched again while he nearly ate his fingers. Nothing was joining. During the drive out we had not seen any other birds down or flighting so do we stay or do we go??.The rain was still heavy and the wind was strong and we knew that we were going to get wet setting up. We phoned the Farmer , answer phone, so we drove to the farm . We spoke to his mother in law and he was out shooting himself , she said we could go and shoot , so we set up the hide first with a brolly and the twelve thawed birds last so we tried to keep dry as possible. It was now 11.00 and we did not shoot a bird till 12.00 . We tried the magnet but the wind was so strong it was bending the arms so we took it in , we tried using angels but the wind was still too strong. We had more crows show interest than pigeon but they used the wind to there advantage. We finished at 15.30 with 25 pigeons and 65 corvids. DB had promised the curry house thirty birds and we did not even have that many so he had all the shot birds and we said we would use the original twelve again on Saturday. As we were packing up I had two phone calls giving me a "heads Up" on a flock of birds over one of our shoots Saturday morning 09.00 DB pick up as normal still raining hard with a strong wind so we headed out to the area that we had been told about the day before. We found one flock of doves about two hundred strong down on an old barley stubble as we circled the area in about a five mile radius we could see birds under most of the Oaks in groups of five or ten but no real feeding flock the largest flock down was on growing wheat and we had a flock of around fifty feeding in with a flock of fifty corvids. The wind was howling across the field and the rain was lashing down so we set up the hide . I had to storm lash the net between the poles and had to use eight poles to keep it upright. It was now 11.00 and we settled in to shoot what comes in . The hide was on a corner of the field with two crows from yesterday to our left and the the twelve thawed pigeons from the day before we set up under an oak tree to our right as if they were feeding on acorns. We shot till 15.45 and picked up 66 Pigeons and 45 corvids , DB wanted to shoot the roost so he left me to pack up thats why I'm not in the picture. he shot 6 pigeons and one crow at roost. the only bonus was that the sun came out in the afternoon and dried up the net and the gear. the game dealer picked up when I got home. Passionforangling
Another good couple of days considering the conditions. I'm interested to know about the curry house that takes your pigeons. I've never been to a curry house that serves pigeon......have you eaten there? Hi PforA, no I've never eaten there, DB mentioned once that he shot pigeons occasionally and they asked for some. They do not sell the food to the public but keep them for their own consumption and they give him a good discount. I used to help an old friend of the family who lived in Moseley and she had Asian families all round her and two of these families kept ferals in averies in the back garden and they used to make a type of soup which was consumed by the old and frail Edited November 8, 2015 by pigeon controller

norfolk dumpling
We don't have webbed feet in Norfolk - you need to go a little further north to Lincolnshire. That county , or most of it, was reclaimed from the sea and they needed the webbed feet just in case sea came back in. There are of course other theories; gene pool needs diluting etc etc

WelshMike
Well done as usual mate. The weather has been rubbish recently. I have one field with good number of corvids on it but no chance of getting within 1/2 mile due to the mud.
