ALDI - Moving on up ?

Carrying on from the carrier bag thread (wey hey) is it just me or has ALDI increased its "specially selected" lines over the last few months.

Fair play to them I've had some real lovely stuff from there last few months, just recently I watched a documentary on Netflix all about the best steak in the world etc and how dry aging makes a fantastic steak, I was looking around for some dry aged steak and low and behold they even do that too!! It was bloody lovely btw ;)

Do you think aldi are upping their game ?

Yes they have and I suppose that to take customers away from the likes of m&s and waitrose they have to add more 'fancier' food. I love their 28 day aged steaks and I also really like their ostrich steaks in marinade. The specially selected cheesecakes are lovely to. When I started to go to Aldi nearly 2 years ago I wasn't impressed with stacking etc but it has improved a lot although some things need some more thought. They also need to add more basic products like baking/parchment paper which I've only seen at my one once and never again so I have to go elsewhere for it but that's minor I suppose.

Totally agree they are upping their game as the competition squirm.Got 2 of of the steaks just waiting for an interview with my belly. There,s a whole range of goods in the freezer too,red legged Partridge,3 and 5 bird roasts ,Venison etc.We filled the freezer for £40 quid ,the same goods at Tesco,s would be double that so why would you bother

Hmm, I have an acquaintance who owns a food processing factory, they deal with most supermarkets including Aldi and Waitrose. I was told the other day that Waitrose food goes through the system or about 6 or 7 checks for quality and foreign bodies then goes back for a few more, Aldi goes through about three then into the bags !

I was having a chuckle listening to the radio the other day, there was a guy banging on that Aldi, Lidl et al are destroying British jobs and ripping sales from Asda, Tesco etc. He said it was unfair that these small companies were undercutting the big supermarkets? I was thinking to myself, they supply CHEAPER goods but pay staff better wages! Only ONE manager instead of one on each dept, no wonder! Its called a good business model. Locally I can get 2l of milk for 79p go the the big guys, cheapest is £1. Tuna 4 pack. Locally, £2.19, big guys £2.45, corned beef, local £1.29, big guys are £2. Farmhouse loaf, local 47p big guys over £1.25 kinda puts things into perspective! Then Tesco announce they are to cut staff wages for those who have been there for 20 years? I for one will not step foot in Tesco again. I am waiting to see if OUR pay rise goes through. Were supposed to be going to over £8 ph in April.

Don't use Aldi but I can't praise Lidl's food enough. Great quality at best prices and ever increasing range. Their fillet steak is to die for as is their generic French pongy cheese! Their turkey crown at Christmas couldn't be faulted either, quality and quantity. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable as well.

Only minor complain, frequent range changes where something you have really grown to like is suddenly discontinued.

Their household cleaning stuff can't be beaten either, I'm reliably informed!

You can't beat the Aldi fishing shooting bag, though. :good:

The aldi stuff must be really good if they only have to check it three times. What sort of **** are waitrose using if it needs checked so much?

Aldi's beef is the stuff which is refused by either m&s or waitrose, it is only refused due to the weight of the beast, I can't remember exactly I think waitrose or m&s have a limit at 4 or 500 and anything over they reject and aldi have it

Probably all of them bank off shore in the Cayman Islands and pay virtually no tax?

How does that help us?

Interesting programme about there the other night, no income tax but vastly inflated shop prices etc.

No health or social security services for ordinary peeps, just have to rely on hand outs from the super rich?

A guy from there said to watch out UK it's coming your way.

Aldi have just opened up a new store about 10 mins from my village..

And I pass it on my way home from work.. So I'll start going I think..

Bloke I work with buys his wine from them and raves about it!!

I often buy freemans Bay (Sauvingon blanc) - not far off a Malborough's Oyster Bay, but only about £5. Also, their Pimms equivalent (Austin's) is just as good as Pimms but only a 5'er compared to three times that for Pimms.

Just asked the Mrs and yes they have increased all the select lines.

To work for them is hard work and I don't mean like most places. They have a high turn around of staff because a lot can't hack it.

My mrs has worked there over for 3 years and lucky has a good relationship with the bosses .

We shop at Aldi a lot but staff get no discount???

They're opening a new store soon only 2 miles from the current as they can't cope with demand.
