lord_seagrave
he is a president on his way out .who cares what he thinks .or what he has been told to say by dodgy dave. Obama's credibility is pretty low, for this very reason. I too smelt Number 10 speech writers behind this. LS
yod dropper
I would have liked to have heard a response along the lines of it's actually what Hilary or Donald think and how they view our special relationship etc alongside any trade deal. UKPoacher
I read the Washington Post online today. Seems that the Yanks would prefer the UK to remain as their 'friend' in the EU. That doesn't explain the ballcocks about the UK being at the back of the queue regards trade though. BA is now the largest operator of Boeing 747-400s, with 57 in its fleet. British Midland have 37 Boeings in their fleet. Thomson Airways have 58 Boeings. The UK have just signed a deal for 9 Boeing patrol planes at a cost of over £3 billion. If the Yanks wanted to get stroppy about trade Mr Boeing would soon bring them back on message.
shaun4860
Can you imagine America being told they would have to give up their law making and border controls just to belong to some clique, Then told by Britain that they have to stay in it or we won't play with you anymore It's got naff all to do with America what we do

poontang
Until we want a trade deal then back of the que or should that be line? We already have a trade deal with the US, in fact we're their 7th largest trading partner and run a small surplus at the moment. Obama seems to think TTIP is the be all and end all of trade deals... and it probably is for the US banks and corporations, I'm not so sure it's in the best interests of the European people though. TTIP is currently an EU negotiation and I agree maybe not in the best interest of the European people (at least currently from what we know). Its a very tough negotiation for the EU let alone the UK. toontastic
See how quick the US want the eu to split when oil and gold start being traded in euros. Apparently Iran, Russia and China are already in favour of trading in a currency other than dollars.
poontang
TTIP is currently an EU negotiation and I agree maybe not in the best interest of the European people (at least currently from what we know). Its a very tough negotiation for the EU let alone the UK. It's a very tough negotiation because it has to be accepted by 28 different countries, many of whom are hostile to it. A recent poll in Germany shows just 17% public support for TTIP. As already said we have a trade partnership with the US, with minimal tariffs, we don't need TTIP. If the UK wanted to strike another trade deal with the US it would be far easier to do as a bilateral arrangement outside the EU, and without the input of another 27 countries. Don't believe a word of what Obama/Clinton say. Trade is driven by business, not politicians.
vole
I hope it is still in the national psyche to do the polar opposite of what finger wagging shysters dictate we do . It worked for me thanks . I could now not put an x in the Remain box after this fumbling attempt at persuasion . Would jump off a bridge first . I think they have blown it .
