Vince Green
My 84 year old mother has just come out of hospital with a letter to take to her GP requiring changes to her prescriptions and follow up blood tests. She has been told the first appointment she can have is in three weeks time.
felly100
Ring up the practice and ask for a doctor to phone you.
rimfire4969
I guess some practices are worse than others. I phoned about 8:30 am yesterday for an appointment for my son appointment time 10:20 am so can't complain. Bigger picture: In my brothers village they have just started a building development of 140 new homes a combination of 2, 3 and 4 bed, no extra provisions for the doctors or the primary school which is already over subscribed. Where are these people going to go to the doctors and where are their kids going to go to school!

A phone call off me had her in within a few hours. The normal is a fortnight for us and our town is due 2000 more houses

stevo_m
At our doctors if you phone up first thing in the morning they usually have appointments available for the same day. We also have a load on nurses available that are well trained meaning most of the time you can just see one of them, get your prescription and go. Works very well. rjimmer
If you try to ring first thing in the morning, you will be put off. I find that turning up on the doorstep as soon as they start answering the phone(0800), is the only way to get seen in a hurry, especially if you say you have chest pains. GingerCat
My dr has you ring in and then a dr calls you back;decides on the phone if you need to come in and invariably you're seen within a couple of hours. No one ever in the waiting room. I presume it cuts doen on all the coughs and colds that can't be treated wasting time. My last dr in london was a nightmare and you'd be lucky to be seen within 3 weeks. On occasion I went to a and e and saw the Duty gp at 3 am normally to be told I shoudnt have waited and should have seen my gp earlier in the day. Oh the irony. oowee
I called today at 8 and was in at 920. If I asked for a general appointment (ie no rush) it was later this week.
winnie&bezza
I don't know if all doctors are like it but we have a walk in from 8:30am-10-30am and its first come first serve. But for more serious matters you ring up for an appointment to be seen two days later.

kyska
Speak to the practice manager-usually find them very helpful. This ^^^^ Speak to the manager and explain the letter, not worth trying to get past the iron curtain of the receptionist (come neurologist, oncologist, virologist, gynaecologist, paediatrician etc etc)
