Wilksy II
Hello! Just wondered if anyone could vouch for a puppy food, he's been on Royal canin junior since we got him 5mths ago but he has been leaving it recently, it's not cheap but good poo's on it! so we tried him on bakers complete puppy which he likes but his poo is a lot looser, pale and smelly, so I was hoping for any recommends for an alternative, I should mention that we have been mixing the canin with the bakers to ease him in to it over a month or so, also has a few bran flakes in it, any advice much appreciated! PERCE
You only get the first year once with a dog so why not feed it on quality food? Bakers is utter garbage.

That's how I read it anyway but carry on I am new..
Malinois
Having run a breeding program for the police and civilian market what I can tell you is that puppy / junior food is marketing hype/tripe. I can accept that when a pups tummy is small it makes sense to get a lot of goodness in there in a small volume but beyond that it is pointless and in my view dangerous as keeping g dogs on his calorie food during the bone development period exacerbates many joint problems we see in dogs today. My advice was always work your way through 1 large sack of puppy food. After that go to a similar quality adult food. My dogs are currently on Arden Grange lamb and rice. It's the best I have used and I buy it online from a company called Swell as they do offers. Avoid Bakers / Pedigree and cheap supermarket brands like the plague. Also if it says that the meat is a derivative avoid that as meat derivatives are actually feathers, claws, hooves, ears etc. Ian
Malinois
P.S. Don't give the bran flakes unless your dog is severely constipated. The pet food industry has a vested interedt in having us believe that dogs derive anything good from cereals. The reality is that they are cheap fillers and cause obesity in dogs. Also it's not the protein content of a food that causes high energy levels. It is the fat/oil. If your dog starts to work hard in winter as it ages and you want to give it more energy to cope drizzle a bit of melted lard onto its food. ips
I also feed Arden grange hypo. My bitch has been a nightmare were food is concerned as she seems to think she is human and should be getting prime fillet like I do 😁 she likes Arden grange and the output is good. paul1966
as above i fed my pup one bag of puppy food then switched to skinners duck and rice adult food, she has done well on this but i am switching her to a food that Aldi sell called Langhams, she has had one bag before when i ran out of skinners and seemed to do better on it than skinners. http://mcfurrys.com/new-aldi-dog-food-review/
Old farrier
Hi Sorry you're having a problem Had a new pup in the spring came with a heap of puppy food Came in through the door straight into old dogs bowl of utter garbage (aparently) bakers never touched puppy food after that Hasn't done too bad on it Moral here better to feed carp that they eat than the best for them that they don't He does have a odd tin of cheap dog food mixed in and the usual leftovers from the kitchen Hope you get sorted And sorry I've not been much help All the best of

12gauge82
Orijen, Eden or similar. Best dry foods by far
JDog
Wilksy, you never mentioned how old your dog is now. I am guessing seven or eight months. If that is correct he will soon be needing a mix of puppy and adult food whichever you choose.

shoot and be safe
Csj is all I've ever fed to my bitch. We were given a sack of the puppy blend from the breeder and have continued with the "cp21(salmon)" blend since. She loves the stuff and is in peek physical condition. stuey
Have fed my cocker on Burns, CSJ CP21 but now feed her on Canagan. Expensive but my dog looks super healthy on it with a really glossy coat.

Before anyone says it is have no interest in the company but have done a lot of research on the best dry food for my dogs, I used to feed orijen and then found eden which is very similar but a lot cheaper. Wilksy II
Thanks very much for all your time and responses, plenty to go at and think about, you can't beat recommendations! Perce won't mind it's a Yorkshire thing! You should hear what I call my friends! Jed 's coming up for 7mths JDog so I'll be cutting down the amount he's getting and I'll look into an adult feed to bring him on too, I've been following the guidelines on the packet as to his adult weight /food amount ratio Thanks again everyone's! Proudly
When I had several dogs outside I fed raw as I had a free, regular supply. Less muck to clean up, less smell & dogs done well on it. I now only have a cocker pup that lives indoors which has been reared on dry & tinned. I moved her over to a grain free food but will put her on CSJ salmon as its the only dry food I found didn't cost the earth which also my dogs have done well on in the past
loriusgarrulus
Recently swapped from Skinners salmon and rice to Aldi's Wheat free hypoallergenic chicken and rice. Dogs love it and are doing well on it. £8.99 for 10kg.

Dogs love it and are doing well on it. £8.99 for 10kg.Well I'm sure your dogs are alive, these cheap nearly all cereal or grain dog foods are not good for dogs and I would not imagine your dog will be 'doing well on it' in the future. I'm sure I would stay alive on crisps and chocolate but I wouldn't describe it as being good for me.
Canis
my terrier has eukanuba lamb and rice adult available 24 /7 for on demand eating having graduated from their puppy food at about 9 months. On top of that he gets a pouch of pedigree "Wet" complete food daily at a regular mealtime . again puppy version moved to adult at about 9 months . he's nearly 10 now but the still the only fit member of the family. He helps himself to bakers once in a while when i visit my fathers house... it gives him really runny stinky poo for the next 48 hours Another brand i was impressed with was laughing dog however the little ****** went off it for some reason!
