Sort of. A few miles away, there used to be a railway cutting, but in the 1980's they used it for landfill. The farm shop next to the now filled in cutting has large greenhouses on the land and pipes the methane from the decomposting waste into heaters so he can grow tomatoes etc all year round.

How many landfill sites are there in the UK where the methane is usually piped to atmosphere?

They can make methane from sewage, it would require more engineering to produce it than the methane was worth probably.

As I remember it a couple of the Yorkshire power plants used waste heat from generation to heat vast greenhouses and ponds for fish farming are we still doing this or has some "regulation" stopped it?

No, idea, waste heat from generating electricity would be a perfect source of heat for something like greenhouses.

I say mel b3,that's a bit strong, what i could do to ease the shortage is to send 3 lettuce and two courgettes to CP.

Then on a hill surrounded by his followers he can distribute in a similar way as was done some years ago but with fishes and loaves

of bread,BO could assist and then they would not have anything to grouse about.

That I don't know. I do remember watch something on the TV about a grower using the waste heated water from Drax though. Might have been the dreaded Country File come to think of it.

Wasn't it Lord Haskins who started up Northern Foods at Drax to utilise the hot water from the cooling towers to grow salad crops?

I say mel b3 that's a bit strong, bought some lovely straws today 2.25 Euros for 500grm. beautiful.

Tell you what i could do,send 5 lettuce and 3 courgettes to CP,he can then find a hill, surround himself

with his followers and do the loaves and fish routine, everyone would have plenty and then there would

be no need to grouse.

Its more likely there is a glut of iceburg lettuce and they needed to sell it quickly as it doesn't keep.

Someone started a rumour about shortages and the gullible started panic buying. Problem solved.

I saw plenty of iceberg lettuce from Spain in Lidl yesterday when I was buying some nice beef for a Winter casserole.
