CaptainBeaky
A spring! The sear spring, to be precise: the old one snapped, and I need the gun for a show coming up, so I made a new one. It works! I also finished this today: Made the crossguard and pommel (made the blade last week), and assembled it. I am, however, more chuffed about the spring Edited June 12, 2017 by CaptainBeaky

la bala
Some good work there, I like the sword. What did you make the spring from, and what metal for the sword. Edited June 12, 2017 by la bala
CaptainBeaky
Some good work there, I like the sword. What did you make the spring from, and what metal for the sword. The sword is C75 spring steel, which I bought hardened and tempered (as my forge won't take something that long). The spring is made from one of the offcuts. Mice!
I was thinking there is no spring there? I was looking for a curly( technical term) spring. Very good work.

impala59
Just thinking what a great title for an ongoing thread..... today I made an Ithaca 37 safety catch. Prior to restoring my latest 37 it needed a safety catch, available from Numrich for $30 incl. spring and detent pin but they won't supply Some Brass 1/4", 1/8" rod and 3/32" bar, a spring from my box of bits and a little silver solder and I have a working catch. Filing the ledges and cut-outs was interesting and though not cosmetically finished yet I am happy with the result. Cost about 50p. The gun will get a complete restore soon and I shall finish the catch then. It was important to get it working 100% first and a component level strip down allowed me to access the inner workings of the trigger and guard 1/4" rod with 3/32" guide and lock bar silver soldered in place, prior to cutting notches 1/8" rod turned on the dremel with reclaimed spring safe position Fire position Edited June 16, 2017 by impala59
Bazooka Joe
Been a while since I've posted what I've been up to, I managed to acquire some Hardy Fly Reel sand castings off the bay of plenty. Decided to give it a go making a one off reel for myself, pleased with the result, but not with the reel seat bracket.

Problem is after that no one else will post as you've set the bar so very high. I take it that it works as well not just pretty.
