Davyo
6k and a year old it is a new car, what you changing it too I thought she liked it being a sporty one. Sue took my new Ignis (the one I came to yours in).So i sold her Fiesta ecoboost for a bloody Suzuki Celerio ZS4.Great on fuel and no road tax, plenty of room for my fishing gear with the seats down but its too flat as in 0-60 in a day. Just looking for a Nissan Note DCI or similar with plenty of room in the back and lots of cubby holes.Only want to spend £6500 in total (£5800 PX and £700 cash in with a bit of flexability).Still looking for a Swift Sport (retirement toy) so don't want the fishing bus going into that Budget. figgy
That's the trouble when they have a drive of your car and it becomes hers. Bit of luck you will find a decent car.
Winston72
I had one guy fronm nissan telling me that customers prefer a one month warranty to a three month warranty so it was now company policy!!!!!! i nearly wet myself as i walked away
Davyo
Got sorted today @ Lookers Nissan Newcastle,no salesman just a lovely young sales woman. What a turn up for the books,no hassles. Before i could get the words out of my mouth "any chance of a set of mats" she said "I will get you a set of mats" She only had to see the manager once and that was just for the appraisal on my part x.She also said "I know you don't want GAP or any other add on's,but let's just say I've mentioned them.Forty minutes later deposit paid and a big bunch of flowers required I thinks. Two year warranty and recovery (could of had 2 services included but thats only on a finance deals)included on screen price so happy bunny. Gav912
probably why the wife and I ended up with a ford, the guy at busseys was a gent, not so much at thurlow nunn, a couple of yts kids sending me multiple texts asking if I was coming back, I bloody hate text messages.. That's one of the reasons I bought my Ranger from Busseys at Fakenham, Martin there couldn't have been more helpful.........I walked out of their Dereham branch which is less than 5 minutes from my house as the salesmen there couldn't even be bothered to speak to me, the receptionist actually handed me the keys to look at the truck and no sales person ever came near me despite requests being made. I've now heard the same from two other people who went in there with the intention of buying a Ranger who've had exactly the same experience, in one case the young salesmen actually went and played on his phone when he said he'd go get more details! hodge911
With respect that is not what GAP is for and furthermore it is absolutely worth having in certain circumstances. . you know that I know that BUT ........... the salesman who sold it along with just about every other extra he convinced my son was "very important to have" told him it was the be all and end all in cover for ANY EVENTUALITY that may happen during the term of his payments ............. I wont go into the outright lies they tried to tell him when he went back with the car when it was using excessive amounts of engine oil . they tried to fob him off again and again trying to con him into just using it until it was out of warranty
del.gue
I was about to post about car dealerships when I saw this. Went to get the wife a Seat Ibiza. After a test drive of a nearly new Ibiza the prawn of of a sales guy found a car to our spec at another office, but we had to sign an agreement for them to get it in??? So they want me to agree to buy a car I hadnt seen? Also despite saying we didnt need finance...said prawn kept going to his boss to get a better deal on finance...we left and wont be back. A week later i arranged a test drive on Dacia 4x4...turned up...stood around for 20 minutes while various minions walked past me...i then left and gave them a carp review and snotty email. I guess they dont need the business. Maybe im getting more crabby and intolerant in my old age! Anyway im taking my cruddy sat nav back to currys tomorrow...give them a meldrew... TIGHTCHOKE
All of your collective moanings remind me of a story from Surrey many years ago just after the national Lottery had started. A chap who fancied driving a few nice cars did the rounds of the local premium outlets, phoned to book an appointment and let slip in conversation that he had been very lucky recently. Apparently they all bit and when turning up in smart suit and polished shoes was allowed to test drive Porches, Ferrari's, Lamborghini's and Mercedes. Eventually one young car salesmen, presuming he had a lottery win had the mettle to ask how much he had won? Without a second thought the testee pulled out a winning lottery ticket worth, you guesssed it! £
daveboy
Not having a go at anyone but the complaints seem to vary between being pestered by salesmen and being ignored. I like to be left alone and will go and ask a salesman if I need one,I find the best ones are those that say "give me a shout if you want any help"
GingerCat
I've always found that if you have the money to buy a car right there and right then you can turn the sale pitch in its head in an instant and walk away with a bargain. They don't ask the salesman manager anything either, I suspect his coffee was getting cold in there.

The little dealers maybe, but I've been driving around everyday for 2 weeks. The big franchises ain't interested. The only thing I walked away with was 2yrs warranty. The 2 free services where obviously not free as they are only applicable to finance.I was happy with the warrenty though probably in the screen price. But after the amount of cars I have viewed over 2 weeks with the same screen price (same make, model, year and milage) that had only 3 months warranty i think I didn't do to bad.No discount for any of the cars i looked at,but I budgeted £6500 for a second car & that's what I spent. Flashman
Why be rude to them? They have a job and they're on commission. Shockingly, they try to up-sell... Perhaps a little charm would be a better approach than know-it-all hostility?
Dougy
Why be rude to them? They have a job and they're on commission. Shockingly, they try to up-sell... Perhaps a little charm would be a better approach than know-it-all hostility? Having been in retail for over 30 years I find the hard selling from 90% of car dealerships a joke. And I mean joke as in funny Ha Ha, the shiny suits and pointy shoes hair styled on the latest action man. And the silly pushy gimmicks, like it's the best ever car ever built your looking at. Then the same goes for one over there too, different make, fuel and only 3 wheels on it. Must be my age lol
Ricko
5 years ago I needed a car quickly I went on a dealer website and spotted one I wanted When I rang up they denied they had it I drove up and found it on their forecourt The price suited me and I shook on the deal Here's where the fun began The salesman tried to sell me a phone kit I pointed out that the radio was Bluetooth compatible The salesman tried to sell me reversing sensors I pointed out that they were standard on that vehicle He tried to sell me the engine insurance thing I pointed out that I was part exchanging a diesel Mondeo with 150k on the clock And that I was buying a diesel Mondeo with 10k on the clock I told him I'd take a chance on the engine not failing... SirDread
Another pet hate of mine. If I go to a brand dealer I expect the salesmen to know their cars. Nothing more annoying than a pushy approach to you buying but a very very relaxed knowledge of the car they want you to buy.

Red-dot
When i had a few bob i used to waste money on Euroboxes and i often got judged on my jeans and trainers by guys in sharp suits and pointy shoes to be a time waster but i always wondered what car they would be driving if they were not given free cars to drive home. Very true. We came into a bit of money and fancied buying a focus st when they first came out. The salesman kept making promises about test drives, booked appointments but the car was never there when it was time for a test drive. I assume they just thought I was a test pilot without the money. The next week I bought an Audi A3 3.2V6 brand new from a dealer down the road, I wish Id taken it to the original dealer!. I hate it when people judge by looks alone.
figgy
Went to test drive a ST when they first came out with the Volvo 5 cylinder 2.5 engine. Local garage said they could get me an appointment to test drive one in about a week. I laughed and went over the road to Honda they took me and my family for a test drive there and then. Decided to buy a Type R but couldnt come to a part ex and purchase price we could agree on so bought one from another garage. Dealers must think your thick, and the local Range Rover garage are terrible unless your dressed in a smart suit you wont get acknowledged. Once tried to buy two new little city cars at the same time one to be taken as soon as available the other in a couple of months, thought Id get a deal on two. Salesman said no can do as second car would be in a different sales quarter, needles to say they didnt get the second car sale. You hear all about they need to hit monthly sales targets blah blah, then they couldnt give a hoot when you want to buy a car off them. Ive often found it easier to walk upto a salesman and ask him straight off that Im interested in so and so car do you have the authority do a me deal, yes or no as I dont have the time to be messed around if not go and me the man who can. If your polite but firm there usually ok. If there the typical tanned greasy think there gods gift to selling cars Ill tell them to go away. As I said earlier if you can commit there and then to a car and have the money then you can turn the sales pitch on its head in an instant regardless of if it's a small independent or a main dealer. In fact I'd say the main dealer was easier.
