mk70
Are either of these pickups any good any common faults looking to buy one under 2 yrs old
BrowningDJC
I’ve got a few friends with d maxes and they all rate them, I think they have just been voted most reliable pick up. The series 5 L200 I’ve also heard good things from people who’ve got them. At 2 years old either will have 3 years warranty left so down to personal preference. point and shoot
+1. Second to none. Bought a Utah vision in march!
al4x
Comes down to cost, odds are you will pick up a series 5 l200 far cheaper.

I wouldn’t say dedicated ash tray no it’s in front of the gear lever I use it for change .. as I don’t smoke but if you did it would be easy to burn the dash or gear lever as it would be awkward something never looked for to be honest

Harry Callahan
Depends what you are doing... I've heard the mk5 l200 is softer than older models. But if you just want a 4wd car that you can chuck stuff into the back of, I reckon it'll be a good buy. Isuzu will probably rust out quicker. But if you do a lot of towing, it will be much better than the l200 - which is quite a bit lighter kerb weight. Isuzu also tows the full 3.5t. besty57
Had a 62 plate Yukon, only fault was a faulty fuel filter which was replaced under warrenty, other wise great ,only got rid, as I needed a van for work.
al4x
Can you run the isuzu’s On road in 4x4 as that is one big plus for the l200 in the current weather
BrowningDJC
No you can’t, L200 is still the only pick up you can run full time in 4wd on road other than 4 motion Amaroks.

Out of those 2 choices maybe. You can drive my Hilux in 4x4 on the road.
BrowningDJC
I’m pretty sure the hilux is the same as the dmax. Unless it’s the newer shape and they have changed the 4 wheel drive system.

Trevorevans
Why would you not be able to run them in 4wd on the road? What good is a 4x4 if you can’t use it as 4x4 when you want it?, seems odd. Diff wind up? Striped splines? they run pretty old school axles I imagine so what’s the issue?. I’m intrigued. al4x
Exactly the systems are fine on most pickups for use in slippery conditions but not made for normal tarmac. It’s the big plus for the l200 no worry of diff windup. You are fine to use at normal speeds
Fisheruk
I’ve just bought my 3rd Dmax. Blade Auto, with raised suspension. My last Dmax had 93000 in 3 years, it was a Utah auto. On slippery roads just turn the knob to change from 2 wheel high to 4 wheel high on the fly. You need to stop and shift to neutral to engage low box and then you have seriously good off road capability.
Harnser
I have a 15 plate l200 . It's the best of roader I have ever had ,and I have had most of them encluding 3 land rovers . The diff locks and traction control make a big difference in the soft stuff ,and yes you can run them in four wheel drive on tarmack roads without causing damage .i tend to leave mine in four wheel drive as it tends to drive and corner better with all wheels driving . harnser Edited December 28, 2017 by Harnser
OddJob
My L200 has been wonderful, so easy and enjoyable to drive on the motorway or off road. The lighter block gives good mpg compared with anything else. Lots of kit as standard that you may have to pay for as options on other. I Pcp one at £250 a month including road tax. I'll be getting another.
johnny
Ive had a new Utah for two weeks, really like it apart from zero engine braking with the auto box. Much better mpg than my old Mazda just hope it's as reliable as the Mazda.
point and shoot
You do get engine braking once you've applied the brakes down hill. I had a ne w Utah in march. Very pleased with it. IMO second to none.
