pigeon controller
Following the rain and wind on Friday it was doubtful if we should venture out on Saturday at all ,but viewing the weather for Saturday we were on the cusp of the rain and should get away with a damp start and fine finish. So we set out and had a look Bunny_Blaster had given me a heads up on one of my farms so we set out to have a look. As we scanned the field we spooked about fifty birds on the acorns just then the farmer arrived on his quad and informed us that the shoot was on today. So we moved on, we scanned the maize stubble we shot last week and it had approx fifty birds on it , so we moved on. We had seen a maize stubble last week and drove to that farm, we spooked approx one hundred birds off it and drove to the farm to confirm permission. The farmer had an equestrian event on part of the farm and asked us to shoot on one particular hedge, which with the wind made it difficult shooting but we accepted the conditions. We set up with ten fresh birds and two on the magnet set realy low to stop catching the wind which was very strong as we were in the top of a ridge. The first birds in were battling with the wind to decoy and the bird travelling with the wind were missiles which you had to give so much lead it was like throwing you gun away. Then when hit they would be blown another sixty yards before they hit the deck. We kept adding birds to the pattern and had approx fifty out and the birds started to flare so we reduced the number to approx thirty and they came in well with in range, it was interesting that if you had two birds coming we would normally let the first one land shoot the second and the first as it lifts. We had the situation that the first would land and before the second was in range spook so we had to shoot indvidual birds which then spooked the following bird. We had a few black clouds pass over us but no rain. We had started at 11.30 and stopped shooting at 17.00 and we picked up one hundred and ninetytwo pigeons and seven crows. Which was a great result for a difficult day with weather and shooting restrictions. 192 Pigeon and 7 Crows

marsh man
What can we say what haven't already been said in the past , simply amazing , every Saturday without fail you go out and face all the different challenges the day bring , game shoots going on , tractors working and so on , and on top of that , the biggest one is to find pigeons and harder still is to get the go ahead to shoot them , somehow you overcome all of the above and loads more no doubt . Tina Turners record springs to mind , your Simply the best , better than all the rest.

Do you only shoot on the weekends? For the last thirty years DB and I have shot together, due to his work commitments we only shoot Saturday's now, if ime called out in the week by farmers I always go out.
