JDog
The 6th April is the average date for me to see my first ones. Veering slightly off the subject I heard my first Chiffchaff of the year last weekend and today was delighted to see the first of this years immigrant Wheatears. chrisjpainter
I saw my first whilst yak fishing off Ringstead Bay, Dorset. I heard my first chiffchaff three weeks ago, which felt strangely early. Things are on the move

JKD
Not personally seen any swallows yet near Canterbury, but know someone who has. Seen two Dunnock chicks in same place a fortnight ago,,,, now that is early ! Blackbirds, Starlings, Sparrows, Great Tits, Wrens, Green Woodpeckers and Stock Doves all nest building nearby, again near Canterbury. Saw a pair of Goldfinches nest building in Margate today, adjacent to the railway station. It's definitely all go in Kent 🙂

JDog
Finally saw my first swallows this afternoon on top of the Wolds. The wind was from the east, it was cold and they must be wondering what is going on with the weather.

old man
Don't feel very hopeful locally here, swallows and swifts in deep decline year on year, Years ago when I proposed to the local council that nest boxes could be made mandatory at the initial planning for all new developments I received a 25 page email excuse that expressed more concern for a bit of bird mess on paths than the species themselves? Feeling as I do now, instead of deleting it I should have sent it to the National Press. Propose this year maybe visible flying, 1 pair of swifts and swallows and 3 pairs of martins if lucky. Smokersmith
Not seen a swallow yet, but did see a Blackcap in the bottom hedge a few days ago. These have never been seen in my back garden, so I guess it was moving through.

We seem lucky to have had an odd pair on occasion throughout the winter

Island Gun, those Wheatears have certainly wasted no time in pushing north west.
