panoma1
My understanding is Fenn type traps are not currently illegal, but will be illegal Specifically for trapping Stoat from 1st April 2020?

walshie
Agree it looks like a Fenn trap. It's horrible to see anything suffering like that but the tweet that it's illegal is incorrect.
Dougy
Gets me that they can spend time filming, and not vital seconds releasing it if they were that interested. Yes it survived, the ordeal, for how long we wont ever know will it be able to eat ? probably got a smashed trachea and damaged neck. Why did you put this post up? Fenn traps are perfectly legal and do valuable service getting rid of vermin like stoats and rats. Your comment about the Landowner receiving a fine for a legal activity is ludicrous.
figgy
The people on those sites are very emotional, not one bit of rational. Just ranting about killing animals. They will and do smash legal traps. Far too many of them spouting utter cack, the odd post said all was perfectly legal yet they choose to ignore it. They're no better than terrorists inciting violence and destruction. If this type of stuff was said about a race or religion the authorities would be all over them. bruno22rf
Legality aside - that's simply disturbing and using a trap that causes such a slow death should be banned immediately, even if it were legal I would not consider using such a device. Legal? apparently so! Moral? absolutely not.
old'un
It is a fen/solway trap and not illegal, although the setting of it could have been a little better. Social media will be our down fall, it’s a powerful weapon that those that oppose us are using more and more, I have posted this before but feel we need reminding of its danger to our way of life…https://www.vintageguns.co.uk/magazine/rural-terrorism-in-280-characters 3 hours ago, panoma1 said: My understanding is Fenn type traps are not currently illegal, but will be illegal Specifically for trapping Stoat from 1st April 2020? Why should the land owner receive a fine? He has done nothing wrong apart from setting the run poorly.

He has done nothing wrong apart from setting the run poorly. He hasn't at present (which is arguable as that trap run has no preventative measures to protect non-target species) but come 1st April 2020, he will have committed an offence as Fenn Traps will no longer be legal for stoats!. Additionally, the mark iv was never designed for stoats but rats and weasels, the stoat/rabbit trap is the mk vi, hence even through caught across the neck, not killed instantly. The only way to prevent accidentally catching a non target animal such as a stoat (on 1st April 2020 the law makes accidentally catching a stoat in a Fenn type trap illegal) is to ban Fenn type traps entirely!.......the antis must be ecstatic, watch this space! panoma1
Nature is, as they say “red in tooth and claw” the protectionists never show their acolytes or a largely ignorant public a video showing a stoat slowly killing its prey (for example a rabbit).....The intention when using a trap, is to cause least suffering to the predatory nuisance/pest animal target whilst reducing their numbers, for the good of vulnerable species you wish to protect.......this is true conservation, not the bambi ******** pseudo conservation Avery, Packham et al peddle!........ Edited November 20, 2019 by panoma1 Predictive text....again!
dipper
People who set traps ie Fenns should learn to set them.Tunnel needs to be low.Entrance narrowed down. Set correctly they are very humane. You don’t need the rabbit fenn for a stoat.the early mk2 was the best trap.Been useing fens since the gin was banned. But bad practice such as this is a failure of education and/or due to inexperience....it is not an unlawful act! The antis are knowingly spreading lies relating to the use of legal traps, falsely alleging illegality...and using it to attack shooting interests!..........Which is dishonest!....another example of the left wing terrorists belief that “the end justifies the means”
