TIGHTCHOKE
Interesting to see that Rebecca Long-Bailey, she of the permanently raised eyebrows, has today confirmed her intention to consider standing for leadership of the Labour party! https://metro.co.uk/2019/12/30/rebecca-long-bailey-confirms-considering-labour-leadership-bid-11975181/ She will make a wonderful Leader if she continues her obvious talent at making decisions! Gordon R
I can laugh at the out of touch loonies who think they have what it takes to run the country, but the UK needs a strong, electable leader of the Labour Party. It is genuinely hard to credit that they have this misplaced confidence that they could convince floating voters. It's embarrassing.

Their poor little lefty heads are exploding. It's hilarious!

I agree Gordon, its actually quite tragic how unsuited they are for the roles they aspire to.
norfolk dumpling
Coming from a Socialist background I find this all very disappointing although so long as the 'looney left' have control of labour I can at least keep my guns! I do hope to God there is a contender who has the country at heart and not, as we had with Beardy Bloke, personal hatred of all I hold dear to me. So far none are putting their heads above the parapet so Boris and co will have a clear run for many years to come.

I am only going by her wiki page, but there is nothing to say she has ever worked in a true commercial environment, or grew up in a true working class environments. Anyhow my own opinion of her is that she is a brummy gob ***** ,who I would not trust to run the country.

Still, as a feminist she no doubt sees that as equality. She did manage to come across relatively ok on that little series she did with JRM. In the almost impossible scenario that we hope never happens, would you trust her to press the button ?

I'd trust her to do the right thing - which may or may not be pressing it. Would I trust Boris to? Yes - but then I'd also trust him to press the button even if it wasn't the right thing to do. I'd also trust the military/security services (all branches) to give the PM the best possible information and give their advice accordingly. Thunderbird
Unless Labour actually have the balls to come out and acknowledge that they lost a great deal of the working class vote due to their new status as a kind of intellectual, middle-class theoretical-Marxist party full of nasty little champagne socialists, they are going straight to the margins, which may leave the door open for a split, or a decent third party to gain prominence. The biggest electoral success Labour has had in a generation (or maybe two) is the Blair victory in 1997, which was about centre-left politics. If that (and recent events) doesn't tell them something, then nothing will.

TIGHTCHOKE
Well, surprise surprise, Labour are waiting till the 4th of April to replace the totally useless Corbyn and from the current list of candidates the replacement will be no better! I agree! None of those so far standing for the Labour leadership, would, I think, inspire many to return to voting for Labour, at the next General election! Surely April 1st would have been a more symbolic and accurate date for that event?
