B725
Anyone watching the race on the first lap one car has crashed and split in half then caught on fire, luckily the driver is ok.
AVB
Unbelievable. The safety equipment worked thank God.
The Heron
Incredibly no one injured twenty or thirty years ago it would have been a different story.
chrisjpainter
I've not watched it, but now just reading up. It sounds horrendous. A bit worrying the barrier broke apart. They're meant to deflect impacts not break apart. There's talk of the race now being abandoned because of safety concerns. All they can do is replace the barrier like for like - one that everyone knows can fail!
B725
They have just replaced it with large concrete blocks

I've just seen the accident. I was unfairly harsh on the barrier. He managed to hit it at pace at almost 90 degrees. The barriers aren't designed to take that, so it couldn't deflect the car at all so just broke in two

figgy
Brilliant to watch, car over on it's top too. More of this please, great watching, proper edge of the seat viewing. The halo stem certainly works, it could have been a decapitation without it. Just shows how secure the safety cell is. Exactly what grosjean said, he wasn't keen on halo when they first got introduced.
figgy
It could have saved many lives over the years. John Surtees son Henry for one, struck on the head by wheel. They do look awful, but work well.

The Heron
You couldn't blame Lewis for not wanting to race there again this year last weekend we had a dog on the track in practice two fires a barrier that was not up to the job and a well meaning marshall who ran across the track during the race with a fire extinguisher. Agriv8
Russel got Hamilton’s seat wander if the will give him ‘Hamilton’s’ hammer time mode / ‘engine mode’ that’s going to spice things up . ATB Agriv8
