What restrictions. Tell you to stay indoors and only essential travel  DIY open garden centres open, drive through open came back from the farm yesterday and there packed. Just as many cars on the road all day.

Certainly round here - traffic is 'normal', quite unlike the spring lockdown when there was minimal traffic.  Can't comment on other things  (DIY, garden centres etc)as I have not been out other than bare essentials.

I needed to go into town the other day to see my accountant and I would say things are about thirty percent down, plenty of men going into the Shop and coming out with open alcohol and cigarettes. They light a cigarette then cough , sneeze and spit body fluids on the footpath for it to be walked in it and spread everywhere the dirty **** , no wonder things aren`t improving.

And all the other countries who are trying to navigate through high levels of transmission  .... who are mostly doing very similar to ourselves.

Very easy to criticise when the XS deaths are on someone else's hands.

Annoying as it is-its for everyones benefit.

Agreed - however - sadly we British are busy still spreading it over Europe in pursuit of 'holidaying'.  It says "they found a loophole"!

  • Despite testing negative on departure, 16 tested positive on arrival in Chamonix

Interesting ... So , are we talking bad testing, or did they catch it on route or over there ?

No way of knowing - but;

  1. You will test negative after exposure and catching virus for a period (I have heard about 2 to 3 days) - even if you subsequently go on to develop a full symptomatic illness because the viral load has not built up enough to show up.
  2. You could easily catch it on transport in France, UK, or on route.

To be pretty certain - you need to test negative, isolate and test negative again about 5 days later.

I understand that some travel is essential (lorry drivers, freight operations, specialist services etc.) - but skiing holidays don't seem sufficiently essential to risk prolonging lockdowns all over Europe (and hence as per the title "there goes our summer ...." - which is why France closed it's own ski slopes presumably?

Pillar 1  tests -Almost 9 out of 10 pillar 1 test results were made available within 24 hours of the laboratory receiving the test.

So let us assume that is 36 hours after testing and result would probably be needed 24 hours before flight.  so allowing for journey that is 72 hours minimum before second test ,   As John said you can test negative up to 3 days after exposure. (at the pre holiday bash perhaps)

They were training to be ski instructors so ‘working’.

This highlights the problem with mass testing and why I am anti it. It creates a false sense of security.

They were training to be ski instructors so ‘working’ completely non essential travel.

This highlights the problem with mass testing and why I am anti it. It creates a false sense of security in those who can't be bothered (or ate too stupid) to see what it does and what it's limitations are.

The limitations of testing are widely documented and - aanyone who intends to travel on essential matters should know and understand the rules and their purposes ad limitation.

This virus doesn't fly around on it's own.  It hitches a lift with people who don't bother/couldn't care/are too plain stupid to follow the rules at limit travel/movement/social mixing to essential.  We will all end up locked down for ever if people don't/won't/can't act like responsible adults.  We all have responsibility to use our common sense and do our best to avoid spreading this around.

Define essential for me again?

Well it does seem there is a large percentage of people in my area who just wish to get back to normal and at least 50% of those are over 70.   Had some friends drop by today on their 'walk' we kept a sensible distance apart and didn't have to go into this hugging and cheak kissing which has become so boring....I noticed that all the VIPs at Biden do where hugging and kissing.....  hypocrits, but we know that anyway don't we.  The country needs to be going full steam ahead to catch up ahnd make the most of being free from the dreaded EU and a further long term lock down would be a disaster.    I still see young people walking around with fear in their eyes, what a pity it has got to this.

The media are no help, with even the Telegraph having a half page picture of a crematorium oven being opened. Now why do we need to see that. Pure sensationalism.

I can assure you we wont be locked down forever .

What we may end up with is a much younger population in general, which may sound grossly unfair, especially if like me, you are the wrong side of the hill.
From an economic perspective though, its all clover for those left behind !

Blame the bat 😐

Or the lab?

I can't see the French wanting British tourists back in a hurry for thieir holidays if 16 out of 26 on an "essential" £8000 skiing holiday and exploiting a 'loophole' end up spreading the virus into their small mountain community when France has closed it's skiing facilities to prevent tourists bringing infection.  If we are not locked down we may be locked out or at least very unwelcome elsewhere.
