Wilber Smith

Just heard author Wilbur Smith has died loved all his novels, sailed the Indian Ocean with him, hunted throughout Africa, journeyed the Nile.  RIP Wilber my kind of writer.

He was a favourite author of my Dad's, so I've read a lot of his books, he certainly painted a picture with words.

My all time favourite novelist - his writing could suck you in until you felt like you were part of the story.
If you're never read anything by him, "Eagle in the Sky"  would be a great place to start.

Not only could he make it up, but did, also writing it all superbly and 'On Leopard Rock' suggests that he pretty much lived it to boot.

Enjoyed many of his books in days gone by, almost from when he first began publishing.

Should have also said he was a keen game shot, certainly knew his guns and rifles.

I only ever read ‘Shout at the Devil’ out of all his books, and enjoyed it, but enjoyed the film more.

He could certainly tell a swashbuckling tale , I've enjoyed a lot of his books.

Unfortunately the wokists will paint a different picture of his literary prowess, as his views of colonialism and others culture are simply incompatible with today's ideology .

I have never read any of his novels but I have stayed and hunted at Leopard Rock.
It is a ten thousand hectare private game reserve in the Klein Karoo Desert three and a half hour’s drive from Cape Town, previously owned by Wilbur Smith and more recently by my friend Wayne. 
Wayne took me to see Smith’s house in a beautiful spot by a little spring. Sadly, even fifteen years ago when I was there, the place was starting to look derelict with Baboons tearing off the roof and shutters.

Wrote some very good books, not so fussed on the later stuff written by others carrying his name.
