Poor Shot
I've seen the same being discussed on social media this evening. I wonder if we'll see anything in response from BASC?
robbiep
Strange that the 'Senodd' (it's actually Senedd) 'announced this', but there's no link to the actual announcement, which was probably done on a press release, so, you know, it would be on record or something, like on the Senedd's official website ? I've just had a look, and nothing there I can see Almost makes you wonder if it's a load of bull, doesn't it ? More likely it's one of the lunatic fringe green party has made an announcement that they WANT this to be looked at. Someone has added 2+2, got 46, and spread the word. 'Send reinforcements, we're going to advance', anyone ?

Spellchecker wasn’t in use any how; ‘sort’ is spelled ‘sought’ in the context used, so doesn’t appear professional to me. Maybe it’s been put out there by an interested party to test the level of response? Either way, the number of angling and shooting votes combined would be high I would think, in Wales. udderlyoffroad
The post reads like a (poorly written) fishing expedition, to get a response. The only thing I can find is the Welsh government turning down a shoot’s request for COVID-relief funding, citing ‘animal cruelty’ (PDF) and BASC’s response. Wonder if someone took this quote from the letter and ran with it.

greylag
Unfortunately there is not one member of the Welsh government in favour of country sports .They are determined to pick away at our way of life little by little,as can be seen from last week's decision by NRW a government funded organisation to alter the general licences . greylag
Simon Hart is secretary of state for Wales and as Mr Drakeford keeps telling us we are devolved and countryside laws and directives come from the Welsh government and not from Westminster. Simon Hart is undoubtedly pro countryside but has no say in the law making on this issue.

Fellside
I retract my last comment - re the the subject being potentially bogus. Having done some digging, it would appear that the Facebook piece by Matt Beaumont above is quite genuine. Various other journals have reported similar. It has also been asserted by several credible sources however, that the devolved Welsh government would need sign-off from Westminster in order to achieve its ill advised ambitions. Should that last piece become common knowledge amongst the potato sympathisers then I'd be willing to put good money on seeing Plaid Cymru etc using it as an excuse for Welsh independence to gain the young, metropolitan vote. I am Welsh and very proud of it but independence would see Wales sink below North Korea in many areas and not just GDP or removal of basic freedoms. A ban of field sports would see vast parts of the rural economy die overnight. I think Welsh Gov underestimate just how much of Wales exists outside of Cardiff. But this is exactly what they want - people beholden to the Assembly (I refuse to use the S word) be it benefits or universal basic income or whatever they call it. They are introducing a tourist tax - which will also tax people from Wales, introduction of 20MPH which is being trailed (which is just paying lip service to trailed before a full rollout next year). To put it bluntly they are village idiots that failed on being too mad - from all parties - and are themselves a massive drain on the Welsh Economy in their own right. When my youngest finishes college next year I am going to start the "lets move" action with SWMBO - back to England, or perhaps North Korea

I think every street is its own voting area - so they can outnumber the rest of Wales 😞
greylag
With local elections on the horizon and I can't wait for them to knock my door asking for my support.Drakeford and his followers have been playing politics in Wales for over twenty years and we are going backwards. We must stand up for what we believe in,or our sons , daughters, and grandchildren will only read about what Wales used to be like.
discobob
I support "Abolish the Welsh Assembly" movement - all I see is the Assembly trying divertive policies out left right and center as they march to their Socialist Nirvana. When we moved here 18 years ago it wasn't seen as much of anything buy my God - that has changed over the past 10 years or so. Lovely place let down by its politics and navel gazing of certain people

Unfortunately the current government are doing absolutely nothing to combat this. Even today people in Wales still believe that Westminster (Evil Tories) is to blame for the state of the NHS in Wales. Health in Wales is a devolved issue and has been for a very long time. Welsh Gov 100% controls and funds the NHS in Wales yet Boris still gets the blame when a pensioner spends 12 hours on the floor waiting for an ambulance. captainhastings
I just find it unthinkable. Just as one example. Pottering about on a frosty morning with a ferret and a dog. That rumble under the ground before a bolt. That man and dog team work. To outlaw some thing like that is insanity . You have to draw a line Edited April 1, 2022 by captainhastings
