Domestic Energy Prices

I've just received my revised direct debit figures. Forget the 54%, although it must be said that the figures will self adjust in time as they have been based on a few months of unusually high usage because we've had the builders in with all of their power tools. Now looking forward to October - anyone want to take a flyer as to why that month?

The cap is reviewed twice a year, in February and August and takes effect in April and October respectively.

No flyer required…

Unless, of course, you're a pensioner when the RPI/CPI or whatever level which decides your next year's pension(s) is decided in September.

Hello, what are PW members thoughts, save using a gas or electric to boil water for a tea or coffee, my usual 1 mug full and rest of water over goes in a flask, am trying to see how good the taste is using my microwave on full power, 650 watt, water boils in 4 minutes , so far it tastes ok for tea, this must be cheaper ? or am I a skinflint oldy 🤔🙄😁

It takes the same amount of energy to boil 1 cup of water no matter what you use, the difference is the wasted energy, whether boiling too much water in a kettle or waste energy from unabsorbed microwaves.

Best answer is something like this.... Heating only the water you need, as you need it.

Hello, looking at this government energy relief payment of £400 ? payed in installments from October is that going to make any difference this winter, ?? Is this on top of the over 65s heating allowance, ?? Now we have new figures for gas and electric price rises this Autumn , like the song, it's going to be a very bleak winter for millions in UK,

Good question as no one has mentioned it. I admire Smokersmith's glass half full attitude. When it comes to politicians I'm afraid mine is half empty so as next year's pensions are decided prior to the October planned power increases (I suppose it would be more correct to say 'planned changes', but I'll stay with 'increases') pensioners are going to take yet another hit unless here's a dramatic change (reduction) in costs next year when it comes into effect.

Hello, depends on usage for 1 or 2 people households above pension age , if I'm correct with the governments £400 plus heating allowance of £200, if on pension credit there is an extra payment, most on basic pension plus a small private pension should be able to get through this winter , but it's going to hit hard the families most and the government should make them more a priority, the £400 going to every home in UK ? even Sunak ??, surely they could find away to distribute the money to those in more need, ??

Seems to me tough as it is, and no doubt many will die this is part of the process of change. We will get more efficient in the way that we use energy. It will force higher standards of insulation, something we should have been doing already. It will force greater energy independence. It will drive the speed of the low carbon agenda.

Should make a good speech for Sunak, but would sound far better in a male German voice.

'Many will die, but this is necessary to meet our carbon targets, you would probably have died soon anyway, but take comfort in the truth that you will leave behind a cleaner Europe.
Rejoice in this, that we could have given out more free money to heat and light your homes, but we spent it all on subsidising industry during covid , in which not enough of you died, so you also leave behind a stronger economy.
Be good citizens , and leave your houses and estate, to the state , and we can use that to house more 3rd world migrants, and give generous bribes to various oligarchs.
Remember , your sacrifice today , will benefit the one world government tomorrow.
One world , where you will own nothing, and be happy'

Frightening, more like.

Of course it is , but its all about control, there are some, like WEF acolyte Sunak , who believe us plebs have too much freedom.
What theyre really after , is turning the clock back to some kind of medieval feudal system where the plebs have nothing but subsistence.
Th scary bit is , the plan is already in motion, and most people cant see it coming.

I once tried to microwave an egg (I was about 12)
All was going well , until I tapped the top with my spoon....
Went off like a hand grenade, scolding bits of egg hit me , the ceiling , walls, windows , right mess

I don't think that they want to see it. I've tried to explain to a few, but they can't be bothered to take it on board.

China's mortgage crisis looks like it could be interesting. Bejing rolling out the tanks again soon?

People dont want their belief system destroyed in front to their eyes, so they do the mental equivalent of closing their eyes, fingers in ears, and singing la la la.

I'm saving quite a bit on gas and electric.

I've got the coal fire on full wack with a casserole pot on the top and an old cast iron kettle simmering away for cups of tea.

Coal piles going down pretty quick, im having to order some extra for this year.

Yes, and there is very little we can lawfully do about it?

The politicos lost me when they used anti terrorism legislation to remove a lawful protester.

Aah , those anti terror laws , that the tin foilers warned us about, and we said they would never misuse them....

Used on a daily basis for search, removal of persons, surveillance , and riding roughshod over human rights.
Look at the auditors who record on public rights of way outside government buildings, arrested ILLEGALLY under the terrorism act.
