steve_b_wales
I called into my local Morrison's store earlier this afternoon. After picking up a few items, I requested a carrier bag (as my other 20 were in the boot of my car) and paid for it together with the other items. When I got home, I checked the receipt and found that I had been charged 60p for a very thin plastic bag. Thinking that this was a mistake, I tried contacting my local store (laugh) but finally got through to customer services in Northern Ireland. When I expained why I had phoned, I was told that the price varied from store to store and region to region. The guy checked my store out and confirmed that 60p was correct. What a total RIP OFF. Scully
‘Bags for life’ are called thus because we always leave them at home, therefore they last a lifetime. 👍

I'm going to leave mine to a family member after I shuffle off this mortal coil! 11 minutes ago, Ttfjlc said: Bet you don’t forget one from your boot next time 🙂
oowee
I went to the job centre today and its next to Lidl so popped in. They had some great offers and I had to buy a couple of carrier bags for 59p. They look excellent quality (apart from the branding) but i hate doing it knowing it's more landfill, likely to be made in China and I have a cupboard full at home. samboy
I find it odd that supermarkets have stopped giving plastic bags out but they will still sell you plastic bags. Surely if there is such a problem with them they should not be still producing them altogether.
oldypigeonpopper
Hello, who gets the money,🤔
39TDS
The supermarket gets the money. That is why they are much more keen for you to have a bag these days. At one point it was a tax but now it is just another sale, this is why it has changed from you having to ask for a bag and pay 5p to the cashier asking you how many bags you would like. When the bag charge was first introduced in Wales, the 5p per bag was 'supposed' to be given to 'somewhere', I'm not sure. It's just crazy now! Scully
The money is supposed to go towards healing an apparently ailing planet. How the planet knows this and what it does with the money is a complete mystery to me. Maybe it has an account somewhere? I’m still trying to get my head around the fact that someone actually phoned up to query that they were charged 60p for a plastic bag! How much was the phone call? harrycatcat1
If I go into a shop and have forgotten a shopping bag I always find a cardboard box to put the goods in. I have never bought a plastic bag in my life.
Bigbob
I carry two plastic bags in the back pockets of my jeans then when asked do you need a bag Oh i have one here While the shops want to sell you a bag the charity shops often put any books i buy in one free of charge
30-6
I bought a what I thought was a bag for life for £1 from B+M. Thick, strong one. The stitching came undone I took it back to claim a replacement and was refused on the grounds that I had not bought a bag for life, just a bag that cost £1. I used to know a bloke who worked for the BBC ( no advertising ), and he used to turn all his bags inside out. They must have brainwashed him. 😀

So many questions, the job centre?? 22 hours ago, samboy said: I find it odd that supermarkets have stopped giving plastic bags out but they will still sell you plastic bags. Bags for life, lads in work pop to Morrisons daily, come back with a bag, then bin them, so they'll just take up more land fill. If they were serious then they should be paper or biodegradable. 20 hours ago, Scully said: still trying to get my head around the fact that someone actually phoned up to query that they were charged 60p for a plastic bag!
