I guess it depends how you view it, £17 a year or £1.40 a month over the term of your certificate. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't pay if I didn't have to but relative to the other costs of shooting I don't see it as a major expense.

You are fortunate that your GP Surgery were willing to complete it and have not delayed your renewal, others have not been so lucky.

As it's not in their NHS duties and is done in their "own time" they can charge what they want. Mine charged me £50 a friend of mine's Dr charged him £250 would not take card had to be cash.

Hello, That maybe so but some GPs will not do any FAC applications , Good Luck though

My GP stated that she ( and all the GP's under her practice, as she owns the surgery) do not want 'anything to do with guns' (her words)

It's not worth paying over £50 as there are a number of private companies that will now complete this 'form' and satisfy  the requirements for the iissuance of an SGC or FAC.

Shootcert
Medcert
Motormedicals
Just-health
SimplyMedicals
Medical4firearms
Midlandmed

Anywhere from £45 to £69

Thank you, a very useful list. I had not realised there were so many companies doing this.

There is nothing 'medical about the form', there is no liability implied or incurred by the signor or the reviewer of the form.

There is no need for any 'review, intervention or interview'.
For the Doctors to charge as much as they do and or to refuse to sign just shows (IMO) how ignorant of the process and how self centered they are.
These companies are making a fortune and your doctor still has to do the same amount of work, it's ludicrous.

All thanks to Chief Inspector Fraser (Freedom) Lamb (ret) who pushed for and implimented the process in Scotland in 2016.
Have a quick search for him on Google .... he was at the SCOTTISH ASSOCIATION FOR COUNTRY SPORTS (the Firearms Licensing Specialist and Management Committee member)/gamekeeper turned poacher, but i've not seen 'hide nor hare' of him of late.

He sounds like a mate of John Swift ( “Shifty Swifty” from BASC!)
