I’m surprised it’s being treated as such an outrage. 2 drunken guys arguing, one punches the other in the face. Everyone on this forum has probably seen this exact scenario play out dozens of times in pubs up and down the country. Keep in mind that criminals possessing indecent images of children are usually spared jail, I think it puts into context that this punishment is unduly harsh.

The guy acted no better than a thug and got exactly what he deserves.

he continued to belt the other guy while he as down, so taken a bit further than the usual excuse of self defence, especially when the other guy was only mouthing off about something he considered wrong and hadn’t thrown a punch.

We can’t all go round acting like the average drunken thug just because we are drunk. He is in a prominent position and should act accordingly whether having a bevvy or not.

He could have just walk away from the guy.

He didn't just punch him. He knocked him to the floor and continued his cowardly attack. That is why he is inside.

Exactly Gordon R

How does this compare to the John Prescot street fight, ?

I think Prescott had a much better straight arm jab😂

Not at all, that was years ago.

What's time got to do with this,.  A person (a government minister) threw punch and there was a bit of a scuffle in both cases. Was Prescott charged or jailed.?

Now today we hear he will continue to get his £1,800 a week salary in jail! How many of us would continue being paid when not doing their job? How corrupt this country is! Our taxes paying him to not be working at what he was elected to for. He should be doing hard labour unpaid, and dismissed immediately last October ..How the ‘Elites’ get such privileges!

It definitely looks like a sustained violent attack, he only stopped because other members of the public intervened.

Going by the CCTV, the man he attacks does not look to be acting in a violent manner, and the MP makes no attempt to walk away. He then attacks the guy, (who's hands are down, maybe in his pockets), when his attention is elsewhere.

This definitely looks to be assault!

Of course it was violent assault! That’s the level of MP’s we have!

Just the way the elites have created the system to give themselves every advantage no matter what the circumstances?

An absolute disgrace?

I wonder if you would still think this if he had attacked you or one of your family?

If that’s a harsh sentence, what does that make some of the sentences dished out to people in the riots after the stabbing of  the little girls. And people locked up for posts on facebook and the like . Lots of people got much longer sentences for not even physically touching anyone. He got off lightly compared to those people. It’s not like he hit him and just left it at that is it .

If I was in someone’s face mouthing off, while both of us were drunk, I would have a reasonable expectation that the situation might turn violent.

Hardly the same as a random attack.
