Just a heads up for those of us who are fans of the above, there are several outstanding examples on GT.

I messed up posting multiple links, but for those interested:

Page 1: A very nice 101 XTR for £795.

Page2: Diamond Grade Trap £595.

Page 2: A Gorgeous Diamond Grade Trap ( Sold )

Page 3: 23 XTR Pigeon Grade £995.

Page 13: A very nice 6500 Skeet gun £600

Page 13: Field.  An ‘as new’ fired once 101 boxed with all paperwork and merchandise £1495

Page 18: 101 XTR Lightweight in its original lined Winchester case and with Winchester slip £1500

Page 22: Diamond Grade which comes with an extra 34” multi choke mono barrel and Teague chokes. £2000

There was also a very nice PG(?) with 3 sets of barrels but I’m assuming it’s sold unless I’ve simply missed it? 🤷‍♂️

As a big Winchester fan it’s good to see them and to know that prices are creeping up on even some of the good basic models, and that there are still sleepers out there.

Mostly made by Nikko I believe , didn't Winchester build them a larger factory to produce these guns and a few Nikko workers kept a smaller unit next door making Nikko branded guns - read somewhere that the Nikko guys used to cherry pick the best wood and various metal parts for their branded guns?

All Japanese made in the Olin Kodensha factory. 👍

My boy has a 6500 mc Trap Gun, sporterised with a Grand European game stock. Beautiful gun, handles beautifully too, I used to own a B2G and the Winchester was superior in everyway, handling, finish, wood/metal fit.  Anyhow B2G sold and replaced with a grade 3 Miroku 3700S game gun, as 95% as good as the B2G for 1/6th of what I was paid for the B2G. Conclusion? Japanese make very good guns and value is more important than status.

Too expensive I think for people these days.

Nice guns but old hat now , little spares, but a 30” fixed choke 6500 mk2 handles like a D5G B25

I don’t understand either of those comments to be honest. If it’s just opinion then fair enough, but too expensive compared to what? Too old for what?
Spares are easily fabricated from similar gun parts but I can’t say I’ve ever needed spares for any of those I’ve owned.
An ejector cracked on a mates Grand European, but a replacement was soon sourced, but apart from that I’ve had no issues.

It’s opinion 👍🏻 but most shops won’t touch them really as don’t sell very well except perhaps a sleeper that hasn’t been used or very very lightly. Sadly not the sort of things most buy nowadays unless an enthusiast or such.

Not so many practical gunsmiths around either sadly so “quick” repairs like with a modern beretta or browning generally can’t happen.

Maybe I am wrong but I bet lot of those guns will be for sale for a while.

My practical Gunsmith is great, the reason he can't do much very quickly is down to him being so busy.

Fair enough, but in my experience I find the opposite.
I was given a very well used 20 bore S1 Model 12 takedown a few years ago, still tight and perfectly serviceable but with no finish and a chip out of the toe. I used it as a part ex for another gun and the RFD couldn’t wait to get his hands on it. It went in to his private collection as he is a big classic Winchester fan. I don’t know if he still has it ( probably sold it back to someone in America! 🙂 )  but he couldn’t wait to show me some of his collection!
Anyhow, I got in touch with a local practical gunsmith and he was too busy to come to the phone; his assistant told me there’s a 3 month waiting list for a service nevermind other work. 🤷‍♂️

I’ll admit they’re bought by enthusiasts,  but they’re enthusiasts for a reason.

I think you may find that "shops won't touch them" due to the fact they are not 'steel proofed'. A lot of shooters, and especially the 'next generation' have been completely brainwashed to the fact "if it ain't steelproofed.....DON'T touch it". I recently sold 2 SKEET chokes, I was asked for the usual 'pics' of course, but 2 guys would not buy them because they were not specifically steelproofed. I use 1/4 chokes in both barrels, and as such would not hesitate to put standard steel (if I must) through my Classic Doubles or Winchester 101 guns.

I know of a couple of retailers that ship every half tidy Winchester to the states its a shame but you are right not really fashionable any more .🙂↕️

I've been seriously thinking about buying a Browning 525 with 28" barrels; an older Winchester might be a more affordable option....not least because I prefer fixed chokes.

Winchester 5500 28 inch barrels would be perfect for you ,a real quality gun ,nice engraving with fixed or multi choke and an adjustable trigger.

I have 2 6500 spotters both 30” one fixed choke and the other multi choke. I’m after a 8500 and a 5500 to match if I can find ones clean enough

I own a very nice 8500 which I sometimes use for clays but mostly when I’m decoying corvids. It is fixed choke and stamped as full/extra full, and even though it IS tight, I’m not convinced it’s that tight. 🤷‍♂️
It minces anything I hit with Eley Pigeon Select.
They are exceptionally good guns in my opinion, and you don’t see many come up for sale.
You could try Miroku Matt?
