  1. Yes its happening more and more. Last Monday I had to make a 50 mile trip round the M25 for a genuine reason because we have 90 year old family members down there and the person looking after them needed to swap cars over. I was amazed how many cars there were on the M25 .Some would have been genuine no doubt but you do have to wonder about the rest.
  2. No I don't think you need to say allegedly, the work of the lab at Wuhan is level four, that's one of only five in the World at that level. Their work is well documented and also highly respected, and in this field too. Probably the best in the world, they did all the ground breaking work on SARS and Ebola. I don't believe for one moment it was the source of this infection but its always going to feed the keyboard warriors
  3. I don't know the truth, nobody will ever know the truth, but it is one hell of a convenient coincidence that the outbreak started in the vicinity of one of the highest security bio labs in the world. China's equivalent of our Porton Down That's going to keep the conspiracy theories going for many years to come
  4. If you are bored on lockdown you may want to watch this before you order your takeaway https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eWZx53teIo
  5. If you are so clever why aren't you the prime minister? Easy to criticise, Jeremy Corbyn has made a career out of it
  6. As it says in the title, who is still open? I know some are but they operate locked door policy anyway most of them. The reason I ask is because I am acting secretary of a club at the moment. A member's FAC is running out and he has decided its time to give up. He has had his driving licence revoked because he is diabetic. His stuff is too good to hand in to the police. I have spoken to two RFDs that are mates. One says he is packing in doing guns, the other says everybody is phoning him up wanting to sell guns at the moment but he is reluctant to take them because he knows they won't shift for years.
  7. They are not porkies they are just a chronicle of how the picture changed over time as things emerged, and are still changing for that matter. I think they are doing a pretty good job in a very difficult time. But I do agree Corbyn would have been a disaster
  8. Well, I think its very much dependent on how the FEO sees and interprets the guidelines. Somebody would have to pull out the guidelines and see what they actually say. I can't at the moment.
  9. You really need to get your FEO in and ask his /her advice otherwise the chances are they will have a different view. I'm told (anecdotally) that some new builds are virtually unlicencable
  10. In general, and its wrong to generalise I know, viruses that kill their hosts are working against their own best interests for their own long term survival. They really need a compliant host who will spread them far and wide. Not one that's going to lay down and die.
  11. You make the lazy assumption that all care homes are for people in their 90s just sitting around waiting to die. That's far from the truth.
  12. That's like saying my Dad didn't die of cancer he died of a morphine overdose in a hospice. Which to be honest he probably did. But it depends which reason suits you to record. Most residents in a hospice probably die of a morphine overdose. But the death certificate says cancer
  13. They will be doing fake ID cards next to go with them
  14. £1000 a week? and the rest, that's the starting price round here. The one my friend's mum was in was over £2000 a week and she took her mum out because she wasn't being cared for properly. Its not a matter of opinion its a matter of law that they are responsible for all aspects of what we can call "duty of care" for both the staff and the residents, its inescapable. Could a H&S inspector go on a building site and say to a contractor "Where are all the hard hats, boots, goggles, gloves, hi viz etc ?" and be told "too expensive mate, they have gone up you know" the site would be closed there and then. Mind you, I do have sympathy for the staff, they are being treated abominally
  15. There are very conflicting issues going on here if you read the better newsfeeds like NYT and Bloombergs It is believed the actual deathtoll is much higher in the USA than is being stated, some estimate it might be double because many are believed to be dying without ever coming into contact with the medical establishment due mainly to poverty and the way medical services are structured in the US. The White House needs to play down the reality of the situation because the American economy is far more fragile than most European or Far Eastern economies. It relies on continuous and conspicuous consumption and the money moving round and round very quickly.. Already the US GDP has dropped nearly 5% and is going into freefall. if it reaches 30% down (and it easily could) the country is effectively bust, very few of the major corporations could survive the fall and the subsequent years in the wilderness afterwards. That's why Trump is desperate to keep talking up the return to work and restarting the economy as quickly as possible. I don't think he regard the number of deaths as being anywhere near as costly as prolonging the lockdown that's my view, no doubt others will disagree
  16. Whats your reason to feed the squirrels?
  17. Because a car load of idiots would drive fifty miles to come and do the same. Then they would say well if he can do it...……...
  18. I'm with you on this. The rules are there for a reason
  19. In the summer they are down on the sea wall at Poole harbour all day long drop netting bucketfuls of the little crabs. Some (many ) are no bigger than a 50p coin. Heaven knows what they do with them all. That's obviously their culture, they are gatherers, no different to our forebearers gathering cockles and mussels at low tide. Or netting a rabbit. I don't suppose they even realise the swans are protected
  20. I'm not a fan of her or her politics but I think she is doing quite well at the moment, all things considered
  21. there is plenty of masks on the internet I have just bought 100 for my family, they came yesterday. I don't think they do much good though I just feel better if they wear them somehow
  22. More likely Romanians to be honest, they take the ducks off the sailing club's lake. They are real food scavengers. Yep
  23. If you wake up tomorrow its safe Seriously, just have a little slurp first to make sure you don't get cramps or the runs. Then 24 hours later a bigger slurp and so on. should be OK but always better to ease yourself in gently
  24. Individual pieces of type are a harder alloy than linotype metal. Its called monotype and contains a bit more antimony. You need some tin to make the alloy flow nicely generally. Linotype got remelted over and over again in the hot metal typesetting machines until it degraded
