  1. So is luminous Green really the only xxl thermal tights you had in stock?, I mused, as walking downstairs( resplendent in my new leggings) I was greeted by something akin to Toad of Toad Hall in the downstairs mirror. Soon fully armed I hopped into the Car and spent the short drive enjoying the roar of the 48 untamed Horses surging under the bonnet of the tiny Saxo till I parked up in one of the more affluent parts of Milton Keynes ( strange how, despite there being nothing here under £450k, I always make sure the £300 banger is locked) - another short bout of swearing produced the desired outcome of marrying my feet with my wellies and off I set rather surprised to see immediately 2 potential furry pellet catchers running around on the grass in front of me. First visit for me this season to this woodland and glad to see a fat Squizzer already enjoying an al fresco nut feast although surprised to see that Magpies and Jays were also busy around the Hopper? Into position after a short attempt at face veil Origami (I only have one eye so have to align the veil eye holes or suffer my ear getting cold) and within 10 minutes of my bum shuffling and Bramble wrangling antics my first customer settled in to feed. Range was perfect and I had a steady branch to lean on but somehow the pellet failed to drop him dead and he ran, in a somewhat unusual fashion, towards me and up a tree. Now he was clearly hit and hit hard yet he managed to scale the tree and disappear into a hole where he spent the next 10 minutes or so squeaking. This seemed to act like a school assembly bell and several Squirrels appeared out of nowhere to investigate the din. Clearly alarmed at whatever Nutty was still singing ( most likely a "One Direction" hit) they forgot their natural caution and 2 of them quickly followed each other earthwards. Spent the next hour or so tidying around some of the other Hoppers but no more Squizzers were sited although going by the amount of feed gone they are clearly there - had to dash home in the end - urgent call of nature and there's no way I'm dropping my trousers in a public Woodland wearing luminous green tights . In honour of suburban shooter I have also written the above account in his own style........................................... "Got three"
  2. We are sick of spending £70+ on Beef only to be disappointed in the quality so here's the plan - Lidl do packs of 5 slices of Roast Beef and it's amazing and at £1.60/pack we reckon that 2 packs each over 8 of us works out under £30 for the main course meat is got to be worth a go - it really is that good so no concerns over quality. As a back up we have so many legs of Lamb in the freezer that we could starter a Butcher's - Tesco employees get chance to have them for nothing once the sell by date is reached and I have 3 kids that work part time so my freezer is stuffed with Meat.-
  3. You could park your Car behind the latch but that will not stop the sides of the breach wearing and allowing the barrel to move side to side - despite going thru 6 MK's BSA still do not fit shims to the Meteor and ,as the block part of the barrel assembly is not hardened, sooner or later this area is going to fail to such a point that accuracy will suffer.
  4. I'm guessing that everybody who believes that price = quality only buys food from Harrods - ultimately it's the food you put in your mouth that protects you from Salmonella yes? Many years ago I was one of the first bikers to put Maxxi's on a superbike - hands up, because they were cheap - but they remain one of the best tyres I ever experienced - Bridgestones were also dumped in their thousands when standard fitment on many Riceburners, but look at them now. Research reviews before deciding on what boots to fit and you could save a packet.BTW - madmax666 is correct that the better grip tyres should go on the back - watched a programme on the box about it a few weeks back.
  5. But you have spent considerable time and skill "fettling" the S - the vast majority of Airgunner's would find it difficult to sharpen a pencil without gaining a pointy finger - as for the weight, pretty sure that my 77 and my sexual self sufficiency were both instrumental in building my biceps .
  6. IMHO Ditchie, the Mercury was never going to be in the same league as the 77 and once people started buying and experiencing the Germans potential it was going to be something rather special to halt the 77 Train, we had to wait for the TX to be born to compete.
  7. Such a shame that BSA did not realise that cutting corners by using a pin to hold the barrel into the breach prevented the gun from competing with it's German rivals - 10% more spent on production would have made the gun 100% better.
  8. Sad news indeed - kinda bloke that you would love as a favourite uncle. RIP sir.
  9. Most of the parts in the action will be hardened and not really prone to corrode enough to stiffen your action - remove the ejectors and try the action again.
  10. My daughters Mini (02) has done 165k miles and still pulls like a train (1600) - electric steering pump has been dodgy from day 1 (bought with 98k on it) but turning the car on and off clears the fault - moving the seat with the ignition on lights up the Airbag fault lamp which is a pain but overall the car is a delight to drive - gearbox is notchy but local mechanic did something with the linkages? and it works ok.
  11. Thought I had found a bargain with a set of Avon ST5 tyres - around £35 a corner and, thinks I, Avon have always been a good tyre - what a disappointment - they have less grip than the (bold) Michelins that they replaced - sometimes the car just seems to wander off line like it's possessed.
  12. Did they charge you for returning after he had broken one of the pins? Surely they didn't use a strong enough pin? So many cons now with pet insurance - latest one seems to be that each insurer has a list of approved vets that they will pay as they follow a particular pricing structure - if you take your pet to a vet they do not list then the insurance company then refuses to honour your claim - best bit of all is that no insurer will provide you with the list so let's say your dog is hit by a car and there's a vet just across the road - do you ring and check with your insurer or just get him treated?
  13. Back into my gingham skirt and back on my abacus Yellow Bear and you are, of course, correct - my bad, this means asking his FEO for a CF rifle on a piece of land with a maximum range of 311 yards - apologies for my error.
  14. "Quite a shot"? bumpy22 - if my calculations are correct (and it's a long time since I sat at school in my summer frock and pigtails) then that's around the 600 yard mark - 850 ish corner to corner.
  15. How can you assume that the shot will not be over the length of it? If it were 10 acres in a perfect square (just to make life easier) then just about any CF will shoot from end to end without even breaking a sweat - a .17 hummer is still going to be angry over such a range - you also assume that the shot will be taken from an elevated position and into a hill or safe backstop - this is the first time , I believe, that the OP has owned a CF rifle so I would presume that his FEO is going to err on the side of caution. No doubt that your ticket is "open" bumpy22 and therefore you have far more experience - that changes the parameters considerably.
  16. 10 Acres is a bit er....petite for a centre fire to be blatting out rounds isn't it.
  17. I don't support the BL - long story but I always attend remembrance day.
  18. moondoggy, you're a man after my own heart.
  19. As Mice has said - usually has a cap on it that you might have to drill out but sometimes they do come out easily.
  20. No doubt the Police will get around to investigating the crime - just as soon as they have dealt with 5 men burning a cardboard box.
  21. Yet another nail in the coffin of this countries sense of respect and decency - we can all sit here and dream about what we would like done to the perpetrators of this latest attack on a Gentleman totally unable to protect himself but, in our heart of hearts we know that , with a dwindling faith in our Police forces to do anything but prosecute speeding drivers, and a justice system that favours those with enough resources to bend the rules, the Scum responsible for this will never get what they deserve .
  22. You are not only training them, like if they were pups, but you will need to "un train" them from a job they have been used to doing. The younger one will ,most likely, be the easier to bring around but the older one will depend on the Dogs nature - the vast majority of Springer's are very biddable but you can get the odd one that is downright obstinate. If you take your time and don't go in heavy handed (a Springer should never need any more than a gentle tug on it's ear and growl from you as punishment) then you should soon see rewards, they are superb dogs to work with if they have the right breeding line.
  23. I am grateful for the positive comments that my post has received - I think that, over the last few years, some members (such as Ditchman) have vastly improved the quality of story telling on this forum and I am trying to reach the standards that they are setting.
  24. My Lad - rescue Dog, we had him from about 5 months old - never known a more natural desire to retrieve in a Dog, he means the world to the whole family.
