  1. Given the tinderbox instability of the US society right now on so many fronts it seemed inevitable that a guilty verdict would be returned - I suspect the jury received 'guidance'.
  2. I have a mate who lives in Granborough, Warwickshire - a little hamlet in the countryside and he got FTTP about 6 months before me - his service comes via a telegraph pole on the other side of the street. BT want everyone off the copper telephone network, whilst they have abandoned the 2025 target the program is still full speed ahead, register on BT's web site to say that you want the service: BT FTTP link . I think this shows the BT products available in your postcode - when I did it originally it wasn't available and I just registered my Email address - at least BT will have data on who is interested in a postcode. TBH most domestic users (myself included) don't need 900mbps+ download speeds today, 4K Netflix streaming was fine on the previous 75mbps service, FTTP provides super low latency and for on-line gaming that's advantageous. There will come a time when 8K+ TV services will become mainstream and that will voraciously gobble internet bandwidth.
  3. Be mindful that in most cases these companies are just providing the service via BT Wholesale. BT had a deservedly poor reputation when the call centres were offshore, its all back in UK now Currently using BT's Full Fibre (FTTP) service...at £60.59 a month - however if BT do the usual Black Friday thing in November it will become suddenly much more reasonable.
  4. Sad to read Jdog, one does, occasionally, encounter truly exceptional people that make a real difference in their lives to the world around them, this chap seems all the more remarkable for not being able to see the effects of his guidance.
  5. Absolutely the right thing to do - the leadership of the BG will discover that the shot term objective will end up costing more in the longer term.
  6. I'm less sympathetic here. To the 600 who got the bullet as result of not accepting the contract/terms - if you don't like the way it's going then go and get another job. The stick head in sand/hope it will go away strategy was never going to work. Complete muppets.
  7. The best friends are always on the simple side...
  8. Have been going to Ian Coley's ground for some years, paid a visit today, 1st time after lockdown, and shot the ESP layout - excellent with a wide variety of good quality targets albeit at 40pence a pop. Was disappointed to find that the ability to buy a snack or grab a coffee has gone, replaced by racks of clothing. Obviously drinks etc would have to be consumed outside under the current Covid rules however the changes are permanent. After a 1.5hr drive to get there expecting to be able to buy a coffee isn't unreasonable - hospitality has long been a cornerstone of top notch grounds.
  9. So humans have been on planet earth for around 6 million years - go back less than 200 years, a blink of the eye, and we we simply got what we wanted by bashing it over the head and taking it. Now all of a sudden the male function of inseminating everything in sight is no longer acceptable, crikey not even thinking it is acceptable. One can't help thinking that the expectation of males is totally unrealistic given the evolutionary time-line? I hasten to add that I don't condone any of the unacceptable behaviours but do ruefully observe the above.
  10. No real conclusion in this thread other than the budget isn't big enough. This bit of the requirement "but also a certain amount of video editing (in 4k/HD)" has a big cost implication if it also has to be fully portable - though unless you are blessed with the eyesight of an eagle probably not useable in practical terms. Full HD resolution is 1920x1080 and laptops with displays running this screen spec are not uncommon/fairly affordable. Some can output at 4K so with a suitable external monitor you could use the Full HD laptop to edit 4K video files. 4K resolution is 3840x2160 to display this natively with the portability of a laptop then this lifts the cost into £1200 territory - example here: ASUS ZenBook UX534FAC 15.6 Inch Ultra HD (4K) Laptop (Intel i7-10510U, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, 32 GB Intel Optane Memory, Full HD ScreenPad, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 10), Blue Truthfully a 4K Laptop display would need the Windows zoom feature cranked up so displaying the output to an external desktop display would, again, be the the most practical approach.
  11. The text looks genuine - mine was similar (Warwickshire) the link opened a calendar with booking slots in, properly neat.
  12. Have acquired a 28" Zabala SbS believed to be around 50 years old as a project gun, originally sought as a lockdown distraction but came too late is rough but all there..
  13. Me too, an amazing individual taken too soon.
  14. WOLF-Garten URM3 Multi-Change Roller Moss Removal Rake Lawn Care Tool Head, Red, 60.5x15.67x6.5 cm: Amazon.co.uk: Garden & Outdoors I've had one of these for several years - super effective if used in a 90 degree/crosshatch pattern, weed n feed the remainder. You'll discover muscles you'd longer forgotten with this 😬
  15. I kind of feel I 'need' a 3D printer, but not quite sure why.....it's the man can't have enough tools thing I think. As seems to be the case these days with so many things, there is too much choice when pondering dipping the proverbial toe in the water....
  16. Gas @ $2.75 a gallon? We'd love that here - ours is over $8.08 US a gallon - our system sees 60% of the cost as tax. Not a totally accurate conversion - US Pints have 16 fluid ounces, where as Imperial Pints have 20.
  17. I felt for Biden - you could see that his knee withdrew 'normal service' and that REALLY hurt, oh the joys of getting older.

The rate that fake news (in this case the AZ vaccine and clots) gains credibility and becomes accepted fact to the point that countries act upon it to the detriment of their populations, some of whom will die prematurely because of a malicious, unfounded rumour is scary. Was on a call with my German colleagues yesterday who are staring down the barrels of a 3rd lockdown with the chance of a vaccine jab a distant hope some way off in far distance.
  19. It's an infrastructure issue I think, with electric having a head start. Would cost a lot to build Hydrogen into conventional filling stations. Then there's the reality that EVs are just a stepping stone to fully autonomous vehicles. We are in the twilight era the internal combustion engine powered vehicle. Dragging a caravan around? I think that will go too....not sure what will replace it.
  20. Samsung - they have a user interface layer on top of stock Android (swipe the screen down from the top) that improves usability markedly.

    JAB

I'm in the 'Pfizer Club', was a slick operation - text message from the GP surgery with a hyperlink to a site that offered a choice of vaccination locations, picked one and was then offered a choice of times and got jabbed Monday 22nd, no news of the booster jab though.
  22. The UK's roll out of the vaccination program is nothing short of amazing - I wrote here not that many weeks ago that if we achieved a 100k jabs a day that would be remarkable and some days we get 5 times that. Looking forward to July/August when the greater majority of the population will have had the jabs there will be hoards of people desperate to leap on a plane for holidays. I can envisage that much unhappiness lies ahead as it seems unlikely that other destinations with less advanced vaccination programs will be viewed as unsafe with either travel denied or strict quarantine conditions imposed on the travellers return. Thoughts?
  23. Feel humbled to have read that, there are no words that can ease the pain. In our thoughts.
  24. Able to escape for a morning most weeks when not in lockdown...is about it.
  25. On the FTTP Fibre-to-Premise topic - just to add that very few wireless devices can manage the kind of data transfer speeds available on FTTP from BT - of around 900Mbits/s so for the 'full fat' experience Ethernet cabling is required to each device. Does the average home user need this kind of bandwidth today? For most, honestly, probably not however looking forward a few years to when 8K TVs are mainstream and we are all streaming media - yeah we will.
