  1. Send it to HR. Childcare is always available but not necessarily cheaply, unless the demand is due to a huge loss of other care in which case extra availability may be exhausted. The only times i have had colleagues encounter such problems is with sudden school closures due to severe weather in which case one parent did the morning and the other did the afternoon.
  2. PM sent, that would be perfect assuming the seller approves.
  3. Even if there were a covenant i understand in most contexts they are essentially unenforceable. In the context of work vans they boil down to "no work vans until the developer has sold all the houses".
  4. If i have any idea what the gun is doing i tend to miss. I would say lasers are very useful though. One really helped me get my mount more consistent, once the mount became relatively consistent everything else started to get easier and the temptation to try and aim the gun started to fade.
  5. Fun stuff. Assuming this would be for more of the same a used mig set up with some pub gas should suffice. Gasless might be ok if you avoid thin body work or are handy with a copper heatsink. If only welding up crash frames and anchoring to thick stuff the buzz box might be ok as it is. You could consider wether arc brazing with it would be appropriate for tasks you couldnt stick weld (remember brazing generally isnt very strong).
  6. Realistically i dont need it till September 2018. I am in Northern Ireland, everything goes of a firearms certificate, and everything needs a variation to add or remove except certain swaps. What i want to add is a section two shotgun which on the mainland goes on a shotgun certificate but here needs its own variation (by serial number) on an fac.
  7. My limited experience of gassless mig has been that if offers nothing more than mma but at a significantly higher price. You wont be able to convert a buzz box but you should be able to convert an inverter to scratch start tig. Cost wise once you look at consumables i suspect a used gassed mig running on pub co2 will be cheaper and easier than making and using a scratch start tig (on the assumption you are looking at gasless mig and buzz boxes due to a low budget and a single project). It will also sell on at about what you paid if need be once your project is complete. What does your project entail and what is your previous experience?
  8. I have been looking out for a particular gun for some time and one has finally become available at an excellent price, but the seller has no rfd they can get to handle a transfer. Were i on the mainland with a shotgun certificate i would simply take a long drive but as i am in northern ireland and must buy the gun, lodge it, and have a variation processed (hopefully successfully) before being able to pick it up. I would then have to fly over, get to a fairly poorly accessible place by public transport, and then fly back. Variations are taking at least eight weeks to process and i feel it would be taking the **** to expect the seller to hold on to it for that long as clearly they want rid of the thing. I had hoped my prospective brother in law who lives nearby would be able to collect and lodge it in his cabinet until the variation went through then rfd it over but sadly he has let his sgc lapse. Is there any way for a courier to collect from the seller and take to my rfd? Alternatively assuming no legal barriers is there anyone near kingslynn who would be able to oblige for a suitable fee?
  9. Interesting but again I had not heard about this.
  10. Study for professional exams and wish I was outside or made better career choices.
  11. Does it make any difference other than reducing velocity once you are at cylinder choke?
  12. A colleague went to court to grovel after being caught four times in one afternoon on the same camera at a similar sort of speed above the limit, with a few points already. He went in the hope of keeping the fine down and avoiding a ban, both of which he succeeded in. His insurance costs however hit him square in the plums on renewal by a couple of grand.
  13. Very interested if this is still available.
  14. I have one of the two speed manual ones at home that my brother wants to restore, great fun things.
  15. I cut a set from surplus horse box matting that work well.
  16. Probably codominance but if things aren't entirely straightforward a coaching session is probably a good idea. Im right handed but strongly left eye dominant so shoot left handed, the better half is codominant and shuts her left eye just before she takes each shot.
  17. He is presumably there to make as good a living as possible and in order to provide the service has costs of running an rfd to cover. Either he bills directly for time or hopes doing it for free brings enough profit on other buisness to acheive more profit overall. The only exception to this may of course be that he is not looking to maximise financial return, i have occasionally worked with people who are not financially motivated or minded (something i find hard to comphrehend at times). Is charging for a 'service' exploitation or the fundamental principal of free market economics?
  18. Some of the earlier schemes essentially defined it as never having bought a property before either in the uk or abroad. You also had to be buying as a primary residence. There was some form of exception for very short leaseholds i think. I dont know how they are defining it this time but imagine it wont be more generous.
  19. I use a 6x42 on my 22lr with no complaints. I have iron sights on my air rifle at present but would anticipate if going back to a scope going low power fixed magnification.
  20. A thread on this came up a while back that may be worth digging up. I used to live with a carpet fitter who last time i spoke to him was doing a small 3 bed terrace at a fixed price of £400 including dirt cheap carpet and underlay. His work was aimed at landlords wanting cheap redos in east yorkshire every 3 years. That seems to be the absolute cheapest end of things, and he would want a few houses booked at once for that. He was happy to work as a one man job and undercut the competition that way, most of his competitors were trying to pay 2-3 sets of wages fitting as a team. He also did occasional work on £25-40 per room to simply turn up and fit/relay carpets if the customer was supplying all materials.
  21. I think the principal of what goes around comes around is too often forgotten. My local RFD is a pleasure to buy from, never the cheapest but i always look forward to visiting and trying to find an excuse to buy something. If he goes out of buisness i am stuck with nobody for miles, and whoever i can find may well be far less pleasant to deal with When two products are equally good for me i ask which he has the better margin on and buy that. He often charges me far less than would be reasonable for bits of gunsmithing and knocks money off bills. I hope your customer remains loyal for many years to come.
  22. 43 people who said they could do it failed to provide any evidence it worked in the above trial, those were selected from 500 who also said they could do it as the ones who showed the most promise. My lucky underpants don't work, I still swear them for job interviews, likewise the horseshoe on the shed door doesn't bring luck. These things are pleasant traditions but should never be the foundation for financial decisions. Until I see robust evidence refuting its failure to show any experimental promise it has no role in how I make decisions or how I expect people working for me to make decisions impacting my finances.
  23. First you need to demonstrate it works, given that they have been shown pretty conclusively to be codswallop a scientists job should be to promote evidence based practice. https://www.csicop.org/si/show/testing_dowsing_the_failure_of_the_munich_experiments If i were paying for a service that unexpectedly involved dowsing rods i would very quickly be seeking somewhere else to spend my money.
  24. A nice touch, although whilst i am very much looking forward to having the geographical stability to make buying worthwhile this may not benefit me unless it is available for a good while.
  25. The first thing to work out is the value of the friendship, then consider 1,2, or 3.
