  3. 2 of my uncles members of the Northumberland Fusiliers were captured in Singapore and they survived the railway and ended up in Japan in a copper mine, both said the A bomb was what saved them they would not have lived another year in conditions and rations, came home and never really lauded because they had been POW's.both had been in the expeditionary force and Dunkirk, could not believe how bad the high level command decisions had been in the far east debacle.Left them both quite bitter and with medical problems that they had the rest of their lives.
  4. Dog stolen over night on Tyneside found luckily the next morning at the Dublin ferry port in a van load of stolen dogs, members of the travelling community responsible ,dogs from many areas of uk ,organised and gathered to one vehicle at a pre-arranged point.police not bothered .

I more or less packed it in due to the unequally lines i had come a cross ,beaters eating a sarnie in a leaky barn, guns on lunch and drinks and one was heard to say its raining let the beaters beat 2 drives into one we will stop here and have some more drink down our necks, the keeper was not happy and let it slip and consequently many of us never went back.the boss used to scream and shout at the keeper in front of every one what a tw*t,do not need them in my life.

  10. Many older generators can suffer from a decay of exciter magnetism, flashing across exciter circuit terminals with a 12v battery can sometimes re-energise the generator worth a try " do not connect terminals just flash momentarily"or the coil could burn out as it can literally a short circuit across a battery.

  16. Had 2 brittany bitches in last 20 years, both terrific bird hunters, but they are very hard to keep in hand,(they are actually small Setters no spaniel traits at all),great characters and good on open ground, can be sticky at point making the flush awkward, they are 1 of the few pointing breeds to work and point well on rabbits, Rory Major in Lincs has a field trial line ,with pups at the moment Popular with the hawking guys. Loved having my 2 but hard work ,easier other HPRs,lost a Slovakian rough haired pointer last year a very biddable and easy trained bitch, kept in tight naturally would only cast further if told.
  17. Had a 1970's Krico semi auto it loved stingers, had a 22 inch barrel though right out to 100m
  18. 40 Odd years a go a fellow apprentice decided to make his SBS into improved and quarter from half and full, and i mind saying to him how will you ensure the adjustable reamer will start ans stay true concentric with the barre, but he was an engineer(nearly),took out 15 thou on first barrel and 30 thou on the second hand polished, it and it did look good, when patterned it threw the centre of the pattern 2 foot high on the first barrel and low and to the right on the second,he was lucky one of the machine shop tool makers managed to make a guide rodwith rollers and bored it true cylinder in both barrels, and it shot ok in fact a great gun for flighting duck on inland ponds.Moral of story be very careful of adjustable reamers unless very competent in their use.
  19. Have used a one in the last few years to lift ducks off lake whilst beating, spent many hours as a yungun in the 60s waiting for pigeons to settle in roosting trees ,and yes did hit a few.
  20. Had a spinone cross GWP bitch ,so biddable and easy trained, the spinone blood slows them down a bit in a good way, fantastic water dog had to stop her leaping in off bank sides regular, and a great retriever, had to believe her on a scent even if you did not think it was in that direction, she was normally correct.Would have another of this cross any day.
