neil smith
Now come on Neil, How seriously CAN you take a group of grown men, dressed in pyjamas running around shouting at the top of their voices and shooting steel plates? :o :o :) MC It's called fun, :( although there is no shouting, due to range safety rules, so not sure where you got that one from, IPSC shooting is the fastest growing shooting sport in the world, mostly done with pistols which unfortunately we dont have anymore, but its also done with rifles & shotguns. IPSC now has around 80 regions (countries) affiliated, http://www.ipsc.org/ It sets the rules & helps to organise International matches. I have been lucky enough to represent the UK at some of those events. Safety is paramount & is taken very seriously but after that having fun is the main aim. Our own IPSC affiliated association the UKPSA, is gaining many new members who have got bored with clays or have an FAC shotgun for vermin/pest control & find a second use for the gun at our events, that is why I hang around here, I have had quite a few PM's from interested people who have read PSG posts on this forum & gone on to shoot the sport so its worth the effort. It seems to appeal to the younger generations, which is certainly the case abroad, they are the future of shooting & offer the best chance for the UK teams to compete at the higher levels of the sport into the future, as us older & fatter guys slow down. Kent... the desert eagle belonged to a German girl who was at the match, one of our guys already knew her & he requested she bring it for us to have a go with, that is another bonus to shooting IPSC, you get to make plenty of International friends which comes in very handy when you want to borrow equipment & guns when shooting abroad. harv
A desert eagle in practical pistol is about as much use as titties on a bull.
neil smith
A desert eagle in practical pistol is about as much use as titties on a bull. Very true Harv & I dont know of anyone that uses one, it was simply brought along for a bit of fun (there's that word again ) it certainly caused some smiles with its huge muzzle flash. The 9mm Sphinx & the CZ SP01 we also had on the day would be a better choice N

Dafid69
I'm in the process of filling in my vary for fac shotty. So best option seems to be used for Crop Production. If they ring me to explain I guess I say because I can get 10 shots off before the flock disperse.. Sound ok?

Your ‘good reason’ is simply to quote the terms and conditions of the wildlife and countryside act of whatever year it is, can’t recall now. It's a great way to get through a a few slab of shells in a morning. This year I am taking my own three shot.😁 The only time I will miss it is on Geese. The pigeons are simply too fast to wait around for four shots let alone 5.

Hope you get what you want, Crop production, made it sound like you are going to spread the crop seeds by firing out of the shotgun 😊 Big difference in getting ten shots off and actually hitting ten. Have you handled an FAC shotgun fully loaded ready to fire? not for me they are heavy, unbalanced and just feel wrong. Then if I have missed with three shoots I say to myself that pigeon deserves to live till another day 😂 Edited October 29 by rbrowning2
London Best
A friend of mine had a chap wanted to shoot a Canada Goose. Friend built a hide and deployed the decoys. Chap turned up with an 8 shot FAC jobbie. Geese came in to the decoys and my friend had to hold FAC man down to prevent him jumping up too early. When the geese were virtually on the ground he released him, only for the chap to rip off all 8 shots as fast as possible with no effect, whereupon my friend took his usual R&L with his old SxS non-ejector and packed up. Many years ago, I was advised by my FEO to write 'crop protection' for the reason to acquire a FAC shotgun. 4 hours ago, rbrowning2 said: Hope you get what you want, Crop production, made it sound like you are going to spread the crop seeds by firing out of the shotgun 😊 Big difference in getting ten shots off and actually hitting ten. enfieldspares
Like most laws that restricted firearms this was a law enacted by Thatcher's Home Secretary Douglas Hurd and moved traditional multi shot pump action and self loading shotguns from s2 to s1 classification. This was the 1988 Firearms Act. The advantage for the sporting shooter of a multi shot-shot shotgun is that unless it has a speedload ability like the 1950s Browning Auto-5 is that after the third shot has been fired they are a pain in the bottom to reload when it has been run empty. But I have had such things with multi shot on s1 and for most shooting they don't really offer in my opinion any advantage and, of course. the Wildlife and Countryside Act restricts the magazine capacity of self-loading guns to two for most "sporting" quarry that isn't classed as vermin. With my true as factory made 2 3/4" chambered 16 gauge Browning Auto-5 with its speedload feature I don't feel at all handicapped by not having four up in the magazine instead of two up.
