Laird Lugton
Channel 4, National Geographic Channel & Discovery are doing a week of documentaries on 9/11. People say they remember what they were doing when JFK was shot. I'm not that old but I remember what I was doing when I heard about 9/11. I was just getting off a plane and my girlfriend called me to tell me the news. I joined a crowd watching the news at one of the bars at Edinburgh Airport. What were you doing? gixer1
I was working in Dallas fort worth USA and it was such a surreal feeling, there were mosques being shot at and fighter planes passing over regular for a few days, and the flight home was an awful experience.... Boromir
I was on my way to Science class when my Art Teacher told me World War 3 is about to start. Turned on the tv to see the second plane hit the tower. Never forget that and thinking all those people trapped in the buildings, then to see them collapse. margun
I was in the school library in detention when the librarian put the tv on, we were all allowed to leave early. When I got home my brother came running up shouting 'america's been blown up'. Very sad day, can't believe it's nearly 10 years ago...glad they got the ******* responsible in the end mind you. four-wheel-drive
I was at home that afternoon I had an appointment to see my doctor I have no idea quite why but I was messing about on the computer and it came on the radio that a plain had crashed in to one of the towers so I went in to the living room and put the TV on just in time to see the second one crash in to the other tower I thought this is a joke this dose not happen in real life I remember telling the doctor when I sow her twenty minutes later she has now moved on but I bet she will never forget me. Thelongwayup
Trying to celebrate my daughters 2nd birthday with family who were due to fly out to NY on the 12th. A truly unforgettable day. The news was on all day as we sat around shocked by what we were witnessing.
Dirty Harry
I was in Spain on holiday and put CNN on just after the first tower was hit. Spent most of the day watching it. Had a very long wait for security checks at the airport on the way back.
Hamster
I was driving home from a days decoying and just as I neared the town centre and flicked the music off onto radio heard it all real time on R4. As I recall it was initially being talked of as a possible accident. When I got home I went straight to the TV and saw the second plane hit live. Obviously you knew straight away then it was a terror attack. Edited September 6, 2011 by Hamster
Kes
I was at work and was called by one of the cctv staff who was working in a secure room - was able to see the recording from the first moments. It was a truly horrendous and surreal moment - I dont really think I believed it was real - just a stunt initially. Then the people jumping - the couple holding hands on their jump into oblivion. To see it happening was so much more awful. The detail, the heroism and the phone calls and the flight that wouldnt lie down. The worst and the best all jumbled together. Hope I never witness the like again. An appalling tragedy for all the victims and their families, I hope they have all found peace.
fat_jay
I was locked in a secure ward, i walked past the tv in the day area and saw the footage of the first plane hitting, tools were quickly packed up, and a swift exit back to the workshop to watch the rest of the terrible carnage to unfirl

HDAV
I was in the Gift shop of Jennings brewery (it was my birthday) having just had the tour when a chap rushed in and turned on the TV as it was the only one on site and we all stood watching it for a bit then drove back to our B&B and watched it unfold on the news in a local pub, remeber being in the car listening to the Radio and the BBC went into "emergency broadcast mode" of cheesey music then the DJ (Chris Moyles?) came on and said a second plane had struck all very weird when your in the lakes on holiday. Cannon
I was on my way home from school at the time and decided to jump out of a moving bus in front of a girls high school. I hit the ground and rolled for about 20 feet all busted up and red faced lol. I then casually picked myself up and looked at my watch. It happened near the same time the second plane struck. paulf
i was working in a optical lab and was just about to go on my break when one of the shop floor staff came down to say that there had been a really big plane crash as her boyfriend had just phoned. About 3/4 of us left the shop and headed off to the Commet across the road.
Chris Bb
Was in south Devon on holiday, not a nice day and hadn't been able to find a pub that was suitable for us (with dog) for lunch. Decided to go back to accommodation for sarnies and tinned beer. Switched on TV and thought "Why is there a Disaster Movie on at this time of day instead of news?" Only realised as we watched it, especially the second plane crashing, that this was the news! Will never forget it.

Asa Bear
I remember vividly.I was playing darts at work when my mrs rang to say a plane had crashed into the twin towers. We put the TV on to see smoke pouring out of the first tower. We were debating wether it was a news plane that had crashed or some other light aircraft when we watched as the second jumbo hit. Shocking!
amateur
I was working in the office of a defence company and the Group FD phoned up to say "Switch a TV on" - and spent most of the rest of the day glued to the set.
Paul T
My back wasn't great that day, but I had managed to get into work. I sent my missus a text to say I was coming home and she replied 'ok, put the tv on cos some muppet's crashed a plane into the twin towers.' Got home just in time to see the second plane crash.
