pigeon360
Im looking at buying a .22 semi auto rimfire and have been advised that the ruger 10/22 is the best on the market, any ideas?
welshwarrior
Ruger 10/22 is the most popular 22 in the world says something. People will tell you they are rubbish etc and buy a bolt action. I've never had any problems with mine and if you don't like something on it or are bored change it aftermarket part are cheap and easy to get. Dekers
Im looking at buying a .22 semi auto rimfire and have been advised that the ruger 10/22 is the best on the market, any ideas? Off the shelf I would suggest the CZ Semis are the BEST, generally few comment on them, they are not considered aesthetically pleasing but they do the job. The 10-22 is by FAR the most popular .22semi, and there are by Far the most aftermarket parts for it, some may say that makes it the best??? It depends what you want to do with it, cheap and cheerful knock around semi, then look at the Magtech 7022, straight off the shelf, threaded, and designed to work with the open sights it comes with, job done for £150 brand new! coyotemaster
I think the 10/22 is a great gun, just wish they would put a decent trigger in it. That can be remedied with enough$$
Imperfection
You need a little CZ511 semi like mine.Reliable, bomb proof and will cycle subs all day long, but perhaps not the best looking. Underdog
You need a little CZ511 semi like mine.Reliable, bomb proof and will cycle subs all day long, but perhaps not the best looking. I actually think the cz is better looking and prefere them over the 1022. I had a 1022 years ago and it was good, once I had done the trigger, man what a bitch of a trigger to sort. The cz trigger is a doddle by comparison. My 1022 was accurate and reliable but I did not like how it shouldered. Good luck. U.
Scully
Personally I think the CZ is the better looking rifle, and if I were to buy an auto, that would be my choice.
Fisheruk
I have a Browning semi auto .22, beautiful gun. Great fun to use. 10 round mag. Can be stripped without tools.

Im looking at buying a .22 semi auto rimfire and have been advised that the ruger 10/22 is the best on the market, any ideas? they lied to you anschutz were the best, cz are very good and so are browning, if the only semi out there was a ruger then i'd make do with a bolt action and pass on the 10/22. Paddy Galore!
What he said.... i was just talking to a friend of mine today, he bought one a few months ago for plinking rats, he had the barrel chopped and wanted it screw cut, the bore was over an 1/8th inch out of true to the outside of the barrel, plus it fouls up quickly, doesn't like subs, and doesn't shoulder that well, he's now thinking of a 2nd hand annie or a cz, he wanted my bucky but i aint letting that one go. they are just a mediocre gun, nothing at all special, bottom of the pile so to speak, the only reason they're so popular is all the custom parts available, you'll need a few of these to make it work Edited December 22, 2011 by GRAM71
gixer1
I traded my cz for one a few years ago and 6 days later I walked back into the gun shop and asked for my cz back, tried cleaning it, 5 -6 different types of round (hv and sub) , 2 10 shot rotary mags and 2 banana type mags, don't think I saw it cycle a 10 shot mag without a jam more than 5 times! They are better with HV rounds but really that ruled out the point of it for me! I'll stick with my Brno/cz!!!
Vince Green
Ruger 10/22 barrels can be variable in quality but the after market replacements solve that problem. You can upgrade them into a quality piece of kit but it takes £££ and a bad one is a piece of junk. So many people love them though and they can't all be wrong. With a good one and a high capacity mag they rock and roll.
njc110381
I had a 10/22 which was customised by SYSS. That was a nice gun. The standard 10/22's that I've shot at the gun club though..... Not so good!
gixer1
they rock and roll. To the side usually as you look in the ejection port to see why it's jammed AGAIN! Edited December 22, 2011 by gixer1
cockercas
I had problems with mine when I got it. Quick strip down removed all the grease and **** and its been faultless ever since
welshwarrior
Not sure where people get this idea that they jam only time mine stops is when the mag runs out. Clean it and shoot it simples like any gun.
fruitloop
i have the ruger 1022 the magtec and a cz bolt. the magtec came to me in a right state never been cleaned but cycled flawless. but the ruger i got was cleen as a Wiesel and that jammed like a **** until i replaced the mag from the 25 banana mag to a standard 10 shot. now only jams after about 20 mags full and its a strip and cleen the mag. still not cleaned the magtec yet not broken dont fix but still as accurate as the ruger  Edited December 23, 2011 by fruitloop

Clean it and shoot it simples like any gun. that'd be "experience" chap, they're not like any other gun either, have you tried a 525 annie, cz, or buckmark to compare? even the magtechs are more reliable. welshwarrior
Had an Annie swapped for my Annie Bolt action I found my rugers as reliable and cheaper. The CZ Ive used it was again as realiable as my rugers but had a longer barrel bet you can't get a cut down proofed barrel for £90 with a good crown and screw cut. also ugly Buck mark like my pistol version not used the rifle. Never seen a mag tech
welshwarrior
Got 2 10/22s and had one as a kid. I must have just been lucky and bought the best 3 ever made. If cleaned and feed on the ammo they like ( winny subs for 1 eley and CCI the both like) I have no reliability issues but if I use Remington subs and rws in one the accuracy is poor and I get jams. BobSki
Im looking at buying a .22 semi auto rimfire and have been advised that the ruger 10/22 is the best on the market, any ideas? What do you want to do with it? What style do you want, i.e sporter or military style? If you want it for gallery rifle/practicla rifle/mini rifle and you want a military looking rifle I would say, after much deliberation and research, that CMMG AR15 are about the best .22LR semi-auto rifles. If you don't want military style, then the Ruger 10/22 has got a brilliant reputation and that can't be by accident.
