Is anyone else getting plagued with calls for PPI insurance rebates if it aint them it is some market research or another?

I had 6 calls yesterday and i am sick to death of it.

Is there anything you can do to stop this sort of thing (other than change my number?) i seem to remember you can sign up to a list that stops this sort of thing but cant remember any details

HELP ! ! !

I know how you feel! You are right, there is a way to get these calls stopped but, I too can't remember how

I've got caller recognition now which helps as you can see if its likely to be a sales call and you don't answer. I've noticed a drop-off in the number of calls now.

I sometimes answer and tell them I will get the person they need and just leave the phone until they hang up. They tend not to try too often after that :good:

Pretend to be the butler or something like that and obfuscate - " I am sorry sir but my employer does not take calls and everything has to come through me first" or else "my employer is dressing for dinner - I will see if he can take your call" and then leave the phone for five to ten minutes or "His Lordship is on the other line, speaking to the Prime Minister, I will see if I can interrupt him" and then leave the phone....

It works for us every time and the calls stop, probably because they think we are bonkers!

As for the calls coming in just when you are settling down to a well earned drink in the evening, well it is probably bright eyed & bushy tailed morning time where the call centre is located. There is an answer for evening calls - just tell them to ring back in working hours - they never do as the poor so and sos in the call centres have lists and lists of numbers to ring and they have not got the time to go back to those that are "difficult".

Someone is taking the P, at the moment I regularly get a call on my Mob from one of these companies, they ask for a 'Mr Bo***x', when I say do you realise who your asking for they realise appologise say take off data base, then call again. I also used to get a lot of calls from a kitchen company saying I had enquired about a new kitchen, when I pointed out I had just moved into a new build house they would just hang up. It was driving me mad when I kept asking how they got my number they would just hang up. I am very careful about handing out my number, one time my wife answered and asked how they got our number, turns out I had applied for a CC on line and ticked the do not contact or hand out number box, a week later a contract came through the post filled in with online details to sign and send back (I did wonder why bother filling out on line if still gotta post) I was in a hurry so signed and sent back, they had left off the don't disclose details to third party bit, they get money for everyone they pass on.

I am ex-directory, so I get very few nuisance calls, (None now! ) However, I was traced by one company who phoned me relentlessly. In the end, when they rang, I just told them that because they wouldnt stop ringing, I had contacted the police and the line was being monitored, 'so talk away' - there was a fast click and I have never had a call since that wasnt for me. Always worth a try, if they really are bad, may be worth seeing if there is a "lawyers for U" firm that deals with phone harrassment, I wouldnt be bothered about compensation, they can keep it if they shut the ****###g phone up!

I rarely even answer the phone these days, anyone that I want to talk to will ring my mobile.

If I do get one on the house phone I just leave the phone off the hook and let them talk away.

What puzzles me a bit is how come their names are always Geoff, Michael, Tony or similar. I am very sure they are fibbing and it is really something more like Achmed or Abdhul.

Pi**ed them right off on more than one occasion....

1. I pretended that i could not speak English only Welsh and that i could not understand what they were saying the final comment was was "you live in the UK and you can't speak English, Unfu***in believable" :good::lol:

2. I asked them for their Welsh service, they said they dindt have one, i said "i want to speak to the line manager immeadiately" gave him a lot of grief "bur Sir you speak very good English" my reply "yes but i don't do business in English, if you are who you say you are you should know that"

I answer the phone in Welsh all the time now,its quite satisfying when you hear the "click" of a phone being put down at the other end......:rolleyes:

Being Ex Directory doesn't help-- The auto dialler start's on your phone area code then starts fromm 0000 to 9999

If I get a call from a number I don't recognise I lift receiver but say nothing - they either hang up or you get a tentative "hello" so I say Hello - is that Mr **** - I say is that Mr **** - I repeat exactly what they say - Shows how bored I get sometimes.

I recently had international calls which diverted to a second number as soon as they heard a voice. Needless to say, I hung up at that point.

After a week or so of these calls I picked up the phone and left it on the side and after a few minutes I could hear "hello", "hello", "hello ?" they would finally hang up. After another week of the silent treatment the calls stopped.

Another was a company whose opening gambit was "we sent you some information last week" to which I would reply "no you didnt" and go quiet. Every call was to invest in company X or some green exchange scheme. After a few polite "no thanks - we dont have spare cash to invest" they caught me off guard and after being told politely no, were told in no uncertain terms that I wasnt interested. I've had no further calls from this company either.

A chap where I used to work took a call whilst we were having lunch. His language became more innappropriate as the call went on. I thought he was talkng to his mrs as he was talking utter filth and heavy breathing by the end of it, "they won't be calling back in a hurry!' he announced proudly when the caller hung up. Never had the front to do it myself.

I have a Solar panel company ringing me back for the third time next week-they think that I am 82 year old in a wheelchair-I've explained that if they call I might be unable to reach the door but they should keep trying  In the first call I made them explain how the panels work without spinning and if I needed Duracell's at night or during dull weather.I also kept them waiting while I went outside to see if I had any Vellox windows.Next week I'm going to find out if the panels will affect my (non existent) homing pigeons.

I get the international calls and as soon I a say I'm registered with the TPS they hang up

So now all I do is say F... Off and hang up on them

Same here but they usually say a computer dailed the number and it won't happen again.

With the mailing preferance service if a company ( Virgin media ) address it to "the occupier " the MPS can't do anything about it

I tell them im in the telephone preference scheme but they still call and with hold there number so you cant report them .

But the latest one kept phoning asking about sky and i just say i don't have it .Then i got a phone call saying as i haven't had any problems with my sky my insurance would be going down from £120 to £75 a year would i like to proceed I said yes that's a great saving so we filled in all his details then he said just need your credit card detail i said wait till i get it ,After a ten minute wait i said im in the preference scheme and don't have sky and hung up . I haven't had a nuisance call since

Really annoying, i just tell them to go ####themselves, doesn't stop it but makes me feel better. End of the day it's only some poor low paid call center worker obeying orders.

The one's that are most annoying are the one's that say " congratulations you have been selected to####, "go ####yourself."

Not nice being a Vicar. The Bishop would'nt be happy.
