Well we certainly found em

The under keeper at the estate I help out on gave me and Pelty the nod that birds were building up on the chopped cover crops, it was agreed to let them get a first feed in, so there was no rush to get started. And the weather on Friday were'nt great with clear blue skies and a gentle breeze.

We met up at about 10am and it was decided to concentrate on 2 areas, we flipped a coin to see who went where & I got the small cover crop to the North & Pelty got the large 1 to the South.

The under keeper went and flagged off the other covers & was gonna join me. I went and set up with my back to a small pond, with the breeze which was now building, behind me. As I was putting out the 2 magnets it dawned on me that I'd left all my hide poles & whirly arms at home Doh! Luckily I only live a few minutes away so I was back just as Nick joined me. Cue loads of abuse

It was about 11.30 by the time we had set up. From the start birds were decoying beautifully in between the 2 magnets, it was clear that we were on for a good day, half hour in and we were notching up the numbers on the clicker.

Molly was working her socks off picking everything that was dropping in the kill zone, by about 2pm we had clicked the Ton & still the birds were coming in 2s & 3s. I was then starting to think of the 200, we couldn't hear any shooting coming from Pelty's direction but the wind had picked up as forecast. A quick call & he said that he moved nearer the woods & with the help of Nicks whirly he started getting the birds interest.

Still the birds were pouring in to the decoys & by 4.30 we hit the magic 200, we called it a day at 5.30 as the birds had dropped off by then, there was 220 on the clicker :good:

There was a lot of picking up to do & we wanted to sweep a far hedge & lake where we'd seen birds obviously hit dropping, we picked 14 from around there, birds that would definately been lost without the dogs keen noses.

Back at the yard we met up with Pelty who had a reasonable day with 82 woodies & 10 ferals, we had 224 woodies and 2 ferals & all for a ratio of just under 2 to 1 :good:
