I hate it when people use the word "I" instead of "me" because they think it is correct. i.e "Steve asked John and I to go shooting this weekend" NO HE DIDN'T. He asked John and ME to go. And don't get me started on people who say "yourself" instead of you and "myself" instead of me. Grrrr.

thats just confusing, whem did Steve ask ME (MattE off of here) to go shooting? Edited by Paul223

Wot if yur dexlyxic an av trubel wiv smelling an punktuashon :whistling:

Dyslexics do tend to have problems with use of the comma, colon, and semi-colon. In the case of the words listed however, people with dyslexia tend to mix letters, tenses, or cases up in writing, rather than substitute with nonsense/baby words, i.e may spell shotgun 'sHotgun', or 'shtogun', for example. The modern PC or word processing software does help a lot of people there though. Using 'of' rather than 'have' is just lazy.

If you look at any group of people with a special or common interest, there is often a style of almost 'coded' language that implies you are 'one of the gang' (although not one of Gary Glitter's gang! ), you only have to look on the military websites to see the language used on there and the number of oblique 'slang' terms.

Having said all that - 'Shottie'?- 'Rimmie'? - GGrrrr!!!

If all you have to do is moan about people calling shotguns "shotties" "shotty" then i am pleased for you, your life must be pretty near perfect, well done on achieving what you have done in your life :smartass:

But allas you will never reach your goal, there is nothing in this world that IS perfect, And just think if it was you would have nowt to do with your life, so think yourself lucky we are not all "nearly perfect"

Have a nice day,

dougy :D

Hey, nothing personal meant, it is just internet banter, nothing to get angry about.

Anyway, to take your point - surely most of us are trying to achieve perfection, why try to zero a rifle, if all you want is second best? Why even bother to learn to do anything well? It is the striving for perfection that often gives us some of our greatest moments. That doesn't mean that we don't accept that we may never be perfect, but we still try and make the effort. When I take a shot at a clay/target/etc, I am always trying for the perfect hit, however I know that my best is unlikely to make the perfect round, but still I try. Likewise with language/behaviour/manners/etc, matters important or trivial, I am fully aware I will never be perfect, but I try (and fail on many occasions). If that upsets you, I am truly sorry.

As you say, have a nice day.

Spelling, grammar and punctuation are generally quite appalling on this forum. But honestly, who cares?! We can't all be English teachers!!

We should care because this, and other forums are public and are no doubt read by non-shooters.What impression does the generally low

standard of grammer (and thus education !) give to Joe Public ?

Non of us are perfect but it would be nice to see posters at least try to give a more intelligent impression.

I frequent forums for many varied subjects and sadly have to say that those that are shooting based display

the poorest levels of grammar and intellect .

This post is somewhat ironic, in my opinion! ;)

I, thats me, if your wondering who me is on about, or is it "i am on about" never mind.

Anyway i get annoyed when people abbreviate this and that into the 1st letter only and expect other people to understand what they mean, it happens in the work place all too often, onlylast week we go into a meeting and come out wondering what on earth is "MM"--- "AMI" and god knows what else they came out with, they think its clever, but in my opinion it would be smarter as senior management to actually learn how to pronounce words if they are having difficulty before such meetings, or provide a pocket guide for simpletons like me (or is it I ???)

So what i am saying is, a shotty / shottie is nearly there :good: :good: but a SG could mean umptien things ^_^

yep, i remember getting a roasting for using commas instead of full stops, for gods sake do they not understand that a comma gives the reader time for a rest and negates the use of the caps lock button!

my personal bugbear is the use of the term "butt pad" when they obviously mean "heel plate" burn them all!

Oh here we go again, the phrase 'grammar nazi' is frequently used by semi-literate, lazy individuals to divert attention from their own shortcomings. Proper spelling and grammar is easier not harder, it saves time not wastes it, and is nice and easy to read, because people who can be bothered to use their own language properly don't have to decipher a load of meaningless drivel.

As I said somewhere else here very recently, preferring that someone uses the actual language of the country (where, here on PW, they are often so proud to be a citizen of) properly is hardly comparable with National Socialism is it?

You're going to have to back that one up. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing wrong with 'Steve and I ... ', indeed, I would have said that it is correct and 'John and me...' is incorrect.

Couldn't agree more...even if I may shortly be shown as less literate than I believe myself to be.
