sako751sg
Had a wee discussion at work today with a couple of fellas who couldnt see why the Palestines are a tad upset about the situation, and was shocked that two over 50s hadnt a clue about the history of the situation and wondered how many are actually ignorant to the facts. Far from being a George Galloway fan but this conversation he has with a Jew shows how ignornant even some of them are about the facts and shows why it rumbles on yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Sk9C_5CICiU Edited November 19, 2012 by sako751sg

kdubya
Perhaps it "rumbles on because hamas have fired an average of 1000 rockets a year at Israel since 2001? they dont want piece they want domination, they wont get it. also ask why the oppressed who want piece hide their rockets and missiles in urban areas and even in schools, they will reap what they sow. Vince Green
I was speaking to my grandad today about this, and he was over there at the start....and his words were .....America......stitched us up in the 40's and caused all the troubles today thats 100% right. America in the guise of the newly formed United Nations in 1948 gave away a country, Palastine, that wasn't theirs to give away. It was madness then and it has been madness ever since. All the trouble it has caused. The Palastinians were sitting there peacefully minding their own business farming their land and raising their families and then they were kicked off (many at gunpoint) without compensation because somebody half the world away decreed that it was going to be called Israel from now on. I can fully see why they are a bit nutty about it. Edited November 19, 2012 by Vince Green

OddJob
It goes back much further than 1948 sadly. It's biblical history. The number of people that invaded the area that is now Israel is numerous. Assyrians, Babylonians, and many more old dynasties that are gone now. The retaliation cycle saddens me, but then I'm sitting here in a peaceful place and my loved ones have not been killed by either side. Mungler
I think it's a 6 of one, half a dozen of another situation. What I don't get is the Palastinian PR machine. Firing rockets at Israel is having little or no effect due to the defence technology operated by the Israelis, but it gives the Israelis every excuse to hit back and is terrible world PR because it makes the Palestinians look like the antagonists pulling the tiger's tail. What I do know is that is the Welsh started firing rockets randomly into England, then 98% of the English population would want to see action and a military strike back. So, you can imagine the domestic policitical pressure the Israeli government is under from its own people to strike back. But hey, it's not our problem and we should stay out of it. Vince Green
You have to take into account the Occupied Territory that Israel refuses to give back despite numerous UN resolutions and broken agreements. Or the Intafada when Israeli soldiers routinely shot kids as young as five for throwing stones. I really don't understand why they behave the way they do towards the Palestinian people, you think that they would have some compassion. They don't brainwash the world they buy support. Isreal "donates" millions every year to American politicians which is legal (surprisingly) over there. There is plenty about it on the net, even names and amounts, its not secret..

dazsl
the Isreal have ghettoised the Palestinians reminds me of something that happened in northern europe just over 70 years ago. and people don't expect the down trodden to fight back the Palestinians should have a state and Gazza and the West bank should be joined together also the UN should stop further build of settlements by force if needs be
four-wheel-drive
I can remember that at one time the idea of giving or selling part of Australia to them so that they could set up a country without steeling the Palestinians land in that way they could have had a homeland and not harmed anyone oh we killed off most the people who lived there many years ago so they would not be displacing anyone. Laird Lugton
The IAF has the better PR machine by far, quite what Hamas are hoping to achieve I don't know. I have great sympathy for the Palestinians who were kicked off their land, Israel is fairly aggressive with its land grab and building program. Its refusal to abide by UN resolutions, assisted by its paymaster makes a mockery of the UN. Israel is a state created by the Western powers on someone else's land. In anyones rule book that isn't fair. Will Israel be in existence in 20 years? Who knows? If it's not there the Middle East might be a little less violent...... Sprackles
I believe in parts of America, some Hasidic Jews are now protesting against Israel, saying they do not need a state to practice their faith.
