JimLondon
Hello all I was out decoying the other day I left my hide to set up my flapper,as I approached my decoys I saw two woodies coming in over the hedge line about 150yds in front of me so I just stood there and watched them. And they just kept coming and decoyed right in front of me they got to within about 20ft of me before they actually saw me and ******** off. So this keeping absolutely still in your hide is a spot on piece of advice lol. Anyone else had something weird happen whilst out shooting? lister1
I once sat next to a bouncer with a dead pigeon on, no hide just a face Vail, and shot pigeons. Same as any decoy or flight shooting, keeping still is very important.
stubby
And they just kept coming and decoyed right in front of me they got to within about 20ft of me before they actually saw me and ******** off. and why didn't you then shoot them? is it just me, but I never leave my shotgun in the hide when checking on deeks etc, not just so I can shoot any pigeons that do the above, but the fact of leaving the gun unattended in a hide, never know if some little scrot is nearby
JimLondon
Good point stubby but I did have flapper, battery, and bird to carry. Though I reckon if I'd had my gun the whole thing would never had happened ( working on the whenever I light a fag, pour coffee, take a leak theory)

Actionpigeons
If i am decoying or flight line shoot alone I dont use a hide, I just tuck myself in a hedge or a rough spot and keep still until im ready to shoot. Cos ........and cartridges out of the gun. If they were left in and the dog or the wind knocked the gun over there could be one dead decoyer. bullet1747
Leave mine in the hide, but then again I never have to check the deecs ,havnt I got to hit some pigeons first

I've lost count of the times i've been stood in the decoys and birds have come straight in. It's also surprising how many times i've had birds come into the pattern when a vehicle has been parked there.
lakeside1000
I was decoying on a really windy day with the wind behind me the pigeons were coming in really low and slow, I decided to see how close they would come so I stood outside the hide in full camo and face veil, gun raised ready, a big fat one came in closer and closer, by the time I pulled the trigger it was only about 10 feet away, one wing and its tail went one way the head and other wing the other, I couldn't have cut it cleaner with a knife, don't get me wrong, who wants to mess them up that much, I'd rather have something for the pot but if you keep still and well hidden they will always come in close enough. Big Al
Staying still is the best camo of all for ducks pigeons or geese.
pigeon controller
I've lost count of the times when it goes quiet and you slip out of the hide to tidy up and they start to pile in with you in the pattern if you freeze they will vertually land on you.
