JDog
All I could see when glassing the far end of this particular farm was the odd pigeon flying along a belt of trees. I could not see where they had come from nor where they were going but I thought that it might be worth an hour or so. The only problem was that it was a real hike across four fields and possibly 3/4 of a mile in distance so I travelled light. The wait for the first bird was 30 minutes but for the next hour and a half a decent flight developed and I appeared to be in the right place. Most of the pigeons came down wind making for some very sporting shots over the tops of the trees and for someone who considers himself to be a less than average shot I was pleased with some of the shots I made. And the schoolboy error? I ran out of cartridges. I had a few in the cartridge bag (possibly about 15-20) to which I added a box of 25, so about 40-45 in total. I had to leave with birds still using the flight line but I may have shot more had I been better prepared. The total picked was 24 pigeons. fenboy
You are far too modest JDog , I would guess your a better that average shot if you can flight 24 for 40-45 shots . My current average is very good , I shot two last week for two shots , I have done the rounds today and all my game covers have been ploughed in without me even getting a shoot on them. turbo33
Well done Jdog, nice bit of shooting there I wouldn't worry about not shooting them all, excluding PC who doesn't count( ) its still one of the bigger bags of the last few months Also, carrying a hundred birds back across 4 fields :o ..........well I think the old back might have stopped you going out playing for a while, so probably a blessing in disguise

Looks a cracking shoot you had there! Welldone you. No it is not headless. You can see it's beak underneath it's head. Are you intimating that I may have wounded one rather than shooting them all dead? If you are you know my shooting abilities pretty well. Haha! - Don't you headshoot them all? - nice tight choke and off you go :-) LOL As I was looking at the picture staring at it to see the beak (which I saw eventually, damn eye sight) my colleague said "Why are you staring at dead pigeons...?" doh - now my office think I'm a nutter as well.
