delburt0
Accident or not my condolences to his family but I am sure this will question the way can all handle guns in gun shops, I no by local rfd keeps the gun room locked and only let's regulars he knows in ,or strangers in only after producing there sgc/fac , I have been to plenty of shops where you can walk in off the street and pick any calibre or gauge freely up which personally I do not agree with but even if there was a wire through the trigger guard you can still load and do damage. This doesn't mean to say a sgc holder cannot have a accident or feel like taking there life one of which has unfortunately happened here. TIGHTCHOKE
As has been said above my thoughts go out to his family, it will be interesting to see whether it was a deliberate act or a tragic accident.
aris
I would have thought that ammunition and the guns would be kept very very separate. I can't think of a good reason why they would load live ammo into a gun in a shop.

hushpower
obviousley the guy took a round in with him and when the shop assistants were distracted........
malkiserow
It is a very sad situation. My condolences go to the chap and particularly his family. My uncle ran a gun shop many years ago, a chap came in saying his gun had jammed up, the customer got the gun out of his bag, my uncle pushed his hand on the gun, as it was pointing towards him, and pushed it up in the air as he was saying to open the gun, the chap said - SEE - and pulled the trigger, yes went off! Not long after he decided to give up that shop and sold cameras instead.
ozzy518
Who is to say the old chap walked into the shop already in possession of the ammo ? At this stage it's not clear if this is an accident or suicide
mr smith
http://www.scotsman.com/news/mystery-over-motive-for-shotgun-suicide-1-1107192 Certainly been done before sadly.
aris
it doesnt stop someone going into the shop with a couple of carts in his pocket True - but then I would think that there would be a motive - and it wasn't just an accident. Lord Geordie
Poor old man! It is so sad to hear news like this! Firstly of course because loss of life is such an awful tragedy! Then LASTLY about the media all over it like a rash using it as an excuse to push the ban button! I can only assume at this point, the man in question had intended to take his own life I would like to pass on my condolences to this mans family and "or" friends! This is exactly the reason they are currently running adverts about Mental Health and trying to get everyone talking about it! It can affect ANY person at ANY time! I also hope the Shop assistant is OK as seeing this happen must be horrific!

Munzy
Not wishing to speculate on the Surrey incident I'll comment on the Scottish one linked to above. I found it strange that a "keen clay shooter" who obviously had access to cartridges didn't have access to a gun himself.

Who knows, perhaps he did but didn't want to make a mess on the carpet at home!

kent
How can u shoot your self by accident ? Feel sorry for the people who had to watch must be having nightmares ..Lots of ways, never seen the foot photos etc. There was a guy on here who showed us what a HMR can do to your foot a while back I seem to remember. Three instances last year with guys out lamping Who knows, perhaps he did but didn't want to make a mess on the carpet at home! There might be some truth in that having seen the aftermath myself
malkiserow
The carpet is easy to change, the ceiling and walls are far worse. The tragic incident in the memories of the witnesses is even more engrained. All very grim.
