JDog
I had the pleasure of the company of PhilR and Penelope out in the blustery fields of the Cotswolds today trying to shoot a pigeon. Penelope had the most horrendous journey trying to get here which took him over 4 hours. Most people would have called to say that they couldn't make it after hours stuck on the M25 then M40. Anyway he was eager when he eventually arrived and that counted for a lot. How I was going to recompense him for all of that effort I did not know - pigeons on winter rape can be very hit and miss. PhilR was placed in a field which I have been watching for two weeks and when we looked at it there were birds feeding and in the surrounding trees and in a distant poplar wood which is where they retreat to to digest their food. Penelope and I had a treck to the end of another rape field a quarter of a mile away which I had also watched and we set up 50m apart and used one rotary and an excellent flapper which Penelope brought which I believe brought the birds in very well. Conditions were perfect - no sign of the wintry showers which were predicted but there was a good stiff breeze. Regretfully PhilR did not have as much shooting as I hoped he would but he played a big part in the final tally of exactly 50 pigeons picked by keeping the pigeons moving with his shots. The picture shows the pair of them struggling with the bag!

Penelope
T' was a great day, despite the 'Hell on Wheels' journey. Had a count up of the empties when I got home. 95!
PhilR
That's it rub it in 95 shots! I had 12 shots, two kills and the rest were trying to get the birds out of the sitty trees further up the field for you two. When I arrived JDog showed me the rape field and the birds were streaming across the road and landing in the field right where he suggested I go, happy days I thought. They continued to fly across all the time I was setting up, but dried up once I'd sat down in the hide with the gun at the ready. Naturally though they came across again when I started eating my sandwiches and when JDog rang to ask how I was getting on. I did think of moving everything up to the far end of the field where they'd chosen to drop into the trees, but with my luck they'd have just returned to where they'd been when I first set up. It was an enjoyable day sitting in the sun, albeit breezy. It could've been worse had it been in the rain and sleet which I experienced on my drive over. The birds were definitely there, luck of the draw it could've have easily been roles reversed as to who went where.

I'm not doubting what you claim, but clearing the matter up might be a good idea as you know some people might try to catch you out.....
