Fantastic 600+weekend

Well, after a lot of reccying week after week and only shooting 40's and 50's , our mobile phones went mad this week. Farmers ringing up all over the place. Pigeons and blackies battering the barley and wheat fields.

The first farmer said somebody had maliciously opened a gate to a wheat field and his herd of cows had entered it and flattened huge areas of the crop. Pigeons and blackies were hitting it in their hundreds.

Saturday

I arrived early morning and watched 300-400 blackies hitting a huge flat patch. About 70 yards to the right, flocks of pigeons were swooping in to another patch. I set up about 20 yards to the right of the crow patch and put a flapper and deeks in the hole and a magnet and pigeon deeks in the other. I shot 13 blackies very quickly and 2 pigeons and then the proverbial; they all flew off into the distance.

I waited for a while , then picked up. I drove to another farm who had hundreds of blackies hitting the cow sheds. Upon arrival about 500-600 took to the sky. I sat for half an hour watching the flight line and between the wood and barns was a grass field, which they were flighting over. I decided to set up on the field and try to intercept them.

I put out the flapper and 2 angels and within minutes the cows came over, sniffed my angels and then promptly flattened them. I tried 3 times and straightaway they did the same thing.I gave up with them and just had the flapper out. I shot 24 in the next hour and it went quiet. I rang my mate, who was out with his son and Pigeon Controller's buddy DJB, and asked how they were getting on. Al said they had found a few on some flattened Barley and he had shot about 18. The other two were getting a few shots. We decided whoever was getting the best action we would join up with each other.

I had a couple more and was just about to pickup and then they started to come in heavy. After half an hour it went MENTAL. I was shooting cartridges like they were going out of fashion.I only stopped for 2 sandwiches and 1 drink all day. The boys were also having a BONANZA day. At 5.00pm I had a phone call from Al to say that he had shot 64 and the other two had shot 240 They had to pack up due to other business. I said" you have got to be crazy, when they were still banging in. "

I shot till 7.00pm and ended up with 150 blackies.

The farmer came over at the end, thanked me profusely and gave me a huge bag of fresh out of the ground, new potatoes to take away.

WHAT A DAY -- 469 birds

Sunday

We all met up early morning and decided to split up and check the other farms out, that we had calls from.My self and the twoboys went to the first farm, Again; battered by blackies. ??? Got there and nothing about at all. We shot 2 magpies and moved on. 2nd farm we got to again no birds. We decided to go back to the barley and shoot an adjoining field from the one on Saturday.

We arrived to see pigeons dropping in to a corner of the field and setup straightaway. The pigeons came in steady all day and we ended up with 87.

Al and another mate had gone mooching and had setup 5 times on different farms and suffered badly. Birds in the hundreds when they arrived and a few bangs later disappeared.

They ended up with 52.

Total for the weekend.

445 x Pigeons

163 x Blackies

2 x Magpies

Total 610 birds.

Well done Dave and the lads , nice to see that you are dragging DB out away from his carp fishing. Brilliant write up and result. The knee must be getting better. As you say " Never Give Up".

Hi Bob

It was a cracking result. Didn't see a boilie in sight.

As for the knee? I wish.

It has got worse. :sad1:

I tore my gastrocnemius muscle and it hurts like mad. Trying to walk across fields with a heap of tackle wrapped round my neck, under my arms and on 2 crutches was a nightmare.

Worth it though.
