whats the most unreliable trade

To the person saying about poles and Croats etc. they and other cowboys are half the problem.

We have to abide by all the rules and pay insurances taxes and everything else for reqaulification every few years so the price we charge has to reflect this.

Beleive me none of us are or were making millions, just a decent living. By the time you go and look at quote a job price materials. Collect materials do the job and get rid of waste the hours add up that need to be covered. A half day job will take up a full day factoring everything in.

That's the reason I only deal with commercial and industrial clients and prefer a middle man so I get paid my hourly rates and they can fight over payments later usually three months later.

I know lots of lads that are leaving the self employed work and going on for bigger companies as their no worse off most times and benefit from a steady income they can supliment with the odd job at weekends or on a night.

Bloke was meant to come round and repair mums sybian last week. Turned up two days late and then after an hour of tutting said it was beyond economic repair. Its only a month old, fella said he'd never seen one so clapped out in all his years in the industry. The old girl was not impressed.

I ve been in the trade for 24 years I'm a time served joiner but have been a site manager for the last 10 years,

The laziest trades on any building site are "cards in plumbers" they want everything doing for them ie drilling/ chopping out floor joists etc,

Everything is a joiners job a brickies job etc etc to them,

Not saying the subby plumbers are the same coz they ain't, a subby plumber will do his best to get the job done,

Laziest bledders I've ever met ,

The problem is that a tiny little job can take as long as a big one to look at and get the materials organised etc. The customer thinks it only took an hour to do and feels robbed whilst you've earned nothing for doing it. That's if you actually get the job above the dozen other quotes he gets. Just not worth bothering.

:good: The worst ones are those who ring you then tell you how long it will take! "Oh, it'll only take you an hour or so", which gives you an indication of how much they expect to pay.

From the services side - site managers - promise the earth, run the construction late and still expect specialists to complete on time :lol::whistling:

To be fair plumbers are not employed to knock out bricks or to cut joists for pipes.

Most contracts state holes to be marked and cut by main contractor.

Self employed just get on to get more done to be paid more.

Plenty of poles and foreigners are cowboys. Seen far to many on sites that even the likes of big multi nationals have brought in to do the work cheaper and faster, it didn't last we had to redo the work it so poor.

Yes they are good at something's and rubbish at others. Had one on a site who was a lawyer trying his hand at plumbing.

As already mentioned more than once....as a self employed electrician it's the customers that I find the biggest headache, why do people try and degrade your job by telling you how long it will take etc etc? I'll never turn down small jobs as said it can often lead on to other things but taking time out to quote for them isn't cost effective, hence why most tradesman don't want to know. People want to know exactly how much something will cost which is often unrealistic due to the nature of 'broken' things etc!

On the other side of the fence I find pretty much any trade hard to get to do anything and I'm easy going and understand costs etc, so can empathise with other people.

No dissrespect to them for there proper job, because I wouldn't like to do it, But Firemen get my goat.

Every other one of them are either a painter and decorator or a builder. They get paid there wage for a night shift, very often not getting a shout and sleeping all night, then they call themslves builders the next day and can undercut genuine builders all day long as it's not their main Income. Really ****** me off.

I have three mates who are firemen, and do exactly this, so I know what I'm talking about, and I've let them know how I feel about it.

Slightly the wrong thread, but you get my drift.
