Better to get some advice on gun fit either from a gunsmiths on a clay ground where you can try out a few and get help on fit for the right gun for you. My first gun was fitted to me at Doveridge and altered by the gunsmith there to fit. Sometimes you can get one off the peg to fit. Welsh Warrior on here can help with gun fit too. Lessons really help too if you have not shot before.

As stated, don't get set on a gun just because of a name or reputation.

I'd defo have some lessons to start with and then try different guns for fit ect,,,

If you're including 2nd hand guns in that budget which I would, then within reason you can pick from some pretty serious hardware.

Hi all thanks for all the replies I am taking lessons im on my 9th one now but just waiting for my sgc to be delivered through the door so I can go shopping im thinking bout the new beretta 692 now as tried my friends and felt quite nice altho I don't really no how its meant to feel lol any opinions though more than welcome.

I really feel that after NINE lessons, your Instructor should be offering more assistance in your gun purchase. I offer to go with any client to give advice after only a couple of lessons. I know most of the local gunshops and can normally 'borrow' a gun to try before purchase. Have you asked for his/her help ?

I really don't get the whole gun fit thing and the guy im aveing my lessons with sais I wont really no till ive shot a few different guns is this right.

In your position ( and knowing now what I wish someone had told me back then) it is very difficuilt to avoid rushing out to get that first gun, but if you can resist, it would pay dividends for you to wait a while and shoot as many different makes and models as you can before paying out your hard earned. Your coach should be teaching you how to achieve a consistent mount, and from there he should be able to advise which make and model would suit you best.

I did exactly same as you.....i bought a gold e second hand and absolutely love it....still have it..... I bought the 692 last february and again love this too.... The 692 is basically the rebirth of the 682......but i dry mounted before i bought and they felt right....so, if it feels like it should be then go for it...

erm I dont think that is correct while there is an element of preference, but the basic fit is the basic fit, you need to be able to mount the gun but after 9 lessons that should be pretty much there.

Is your eye centre? is your head on the stock? does it stay there when you pull the trigger? Which is your dominant eye? Which shoulder do you shoot from?

Hello jaysyard.it doesnt matter if its a £100 or £1000 gun the main thing is if it fits you and and is in decent condition and you like the look of it then get it and dont get dragged down wth the brand name fella.a mate of mine shoots clays regularly with a beat up old 90quid side by side and smokes more clays than most folk at the same shoot with 2 grand guns.

Whatever you buy, get a good second hand one. In the future if you decide to change you will loose less.

All guns can be fitted to you at a cost.

As people have said try as many as you can, and you will see the difference between the same gun set up for two different people with different measurements, surprising how the same gun can feel totally different.

Nothing worse than a gun that feels great and don't shoot where your looking.

Hi all thanks for replies, my instructor has tried me with a few different guns but I don't really get the difference lol he also tried different cartridges and ask me what the difference was and I thought less recoil but to my surprise he said no more and I just feel when I shoot different guns they kinda all feel the same. Think I might pop round the shops today and try a few see if I can find one I feels best now I have bit more of an idea, As for instructor he seems real good and really no's his stuff on how to shoot as although I've had 9 lessons when I started I was not hitting any where as now im hardly missing any but he seems to think correct gun fitting comes with a bit of time.

My instructor advised exactly the same......I started off with him hitting about 25% after 5 odd lesson I was getting 75/80%...He said however to wait about 6 months before getting gun fitted as gun mount had to be consistent, and I wouldn't yet be consistent being such a new shooter!!

not all instructors/gun fitters are the same - might be worth trying 2 or 3 - welsh warrior appears to have a decent reputation on here and wont rip you off, unlike some "experts"

Depending on what you shoot, you can, for example, pick up a used miroku mk38 grade 5 multi choked, 2 or 3 year old with less than a thousand shells through it for around £1,650, but it has to fit. Brownings and Berettas are the other brands to consider. If you "buy right", and buy the aforementioned brands, you shouldn't loose any money on resale. Plenty of guns out there - if you don't know much about guns take an expert, don't rely on the seller for obvious reasons.

im guessing your lessons have been with a beretta...its bit like car driving, both sons wanted same cars they learned to drive in....they both changed after a year though.......go and try a few is only answer....beretta v browning(miroku) is age old debate but they are v different guns in the hand. Most people have strong preference for one over the other.I would also not buy a new gun in your shoes, you pay 20%vat and dealer margin for something that works same as good 2nd hand one. It'll be hard but dont rush to buy....you will know when time is right and the gun is right if you wait..........atb
