billytheghillie
When I started my P.C. a page came up offering me windows 10 for free, I have to leave my e-mail and they will contact me on 29th July to activate. What do you guys think?
Danger-Mouse
Could be legit. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/microsoft/11738021/Windows-10-release-date.html
chrisjpainter
Yup, don't worry, it's all legit. On the 29th July (I think) it will start downloading free of charge. There's quite a bit of press coverage of what 'free' actually means, but it genuinely is free, it lasts for ever and is a full copy, not a demo/beta or anything like that. Mine's all set to go. LancsLad45
I had that pop up a couple of weeks ago but didn't fill it in yet. There's a reminder icon in my start-up tray though to register when I'm ready/if I want to.
Chris Bb
If I had Windoze 8 I'd bite their arm off. But, as I'm more than happy with Windoze 7 I'll stay with what I've got until Windoze 10 is proven, if it ain't broke, don't fix (replace) it. old man
I heard and can't verify being a technophobe that I gives Microsoft more control and the user less? Need to verify from someone who really knows.

outandabout
Looking at this, I think I'll stick with windows 7 https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=windows+10+preview&espv=2&biw=1600&bih=887&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0CCcQsARqFQoTCPO2jtma4MYCFQcI2wod8B4O7Q&dpr=0.
Alpha Mule
Don't touch it with a barge pole! Probably legit, but I'm in the business and have a preview edition - it's like the difference between Windows 7 & 8 and multiplied by lots. Stick with 7, 8 is a pain and 10 is a nightmare! harpoonlouis
Fills me with a sense of dread especially as the widgit installed to push Windows 10 creates and error message on my pc...
Les*1066
If you don't have a touch screen then it'll be a waste of time, just like Windows 8 is.
phaedra1106
Sorry to disagree with most of the posts but I've been running it (technical preview) for a few months on my laptop (no touchscreen) which was on 8.1 and it's certainly a big step forwards from 8/8.1. My main PC is running Windows 7 and after making an image backup I installed it over the top of that and ran it for a couple of months with no migration problems apart from a older scanner driver that wasn't too happy. You certainly don't need a touchscreen to use it, it works perfectly with a mouse & keyboard, the charms menu is now a lot smaller and less intrusive than it was on 8/8.1 but is still there if you want it. Nothing in your link to say why. Loads of talk about "don't upgrade to Windows 8/8.1. 7 is better. I have 8.1 on my desktop and it is the best OS I have ever had. Nothing wrong with it whatsoever. As a matter of fact, windows 10 is not a product you would want to install in your PC for a myriad of reasons. Just google it.
rovercoupe
"It will be free for a year for users of the previous operating systems Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. MrM
"It will be free for a year for users of the previous operating systems Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. The price for new users and after the year has yet to be confirmed". Not so free then? If you upgrade between July 2015 and July 2016 it is a free upgrade. If you leave it till after July 2016, then you will have to pay for the upgrade. Simple. Operating systems upgrades usually have a one-off cost for upgrading. And yes the internet is full of rumour and counter rumour about subscription costs. Some people might be confusing it with Office 365 which is a subscription service (Word,Excel etc), which can be bought either on a monthly or annual fee. As to whether you should is entirely down to personal preferences. If your are used to using smart phones with icons, then Metro tabs is very familiar (even Firefox is going down this route). However what I personally don't like is the combination with the old style Win 7 desktop when you switch to browsing in Win 8. I believe they did it because they felt the users wouldn't want to fully migrate. If you use a tablet, then its a no brainer - just my opinion though. Romes
Most Win 7 and Win 8.1 will be eligible for the upgrade to Windows 10. You can upgrade within a year of release free of charge
Romes
Your kidding right It really is preference, Win 8 works well but only really comes to life with a touch screen monitor etc... I agree that Win 7 for a working environment is better than 8.1 more for ease of use than anything else.

According to Microsoft not Win 8 only Win 7 and 8.1 It is free if you upgrade within the 1 Year after launch, then lets face it as its Microsoft they will charge for it.
