Medic1281
Do it yourself. Download a form from money saving expert. Fill it in and send it off. It's really easy. The companies that have approached me have wanted 30%+ for filling the form out for me!!

Bobba
Do it yourself. I did against HSBC for the insurance charges on my credit card. The bank could not have been more helpful. They provided an application form styled by the ombudsman. Upon receipt they rang with a few security checks. There were no wriggle factors trying to avoid the issue. They promised a response within a specified time. The response agreed I did not need the insurance; it provided calculations to show how the award was calculated; and, confirmed that the said amount had been credited to my account. And it had. Well done HSBC.

Dougy
I am sure any company that owed money from PPI must pay up legally, so yoh shouldn't really need to fight for it. You just need to prove that, it was sold to you in a manor that was underhanded or deceptive etc .
bruno22rf
Its childs play to do-put your claim in against the Bank etc and wait-quite often they will deny responsibility in which case you got to the Ombudsman-they will fight on your behalf and most correspondence can be done over the phone. Can take over a year but its well worth the wait-we have had £16k returned to date and another case is going thru.
ozzy518
All it took to get mine from Barclays was to give em a call . They sent out the form I returned it and within weeks they paid up plus interest. Don't use a ppi company. They will take a big slice of your dosh
Alex C
But what if , like me , you have no idea if you have been mis sold or not. I struggle to remember who I've had credit cards or bank accounts with. I've had loads as I swap every couple of years to keep the interest rates down. I've also had a couple of loans and car finance over the last 25 years. Not a chance I can remember who they all are. The way I understood it was these companies would do all the leg work at finding out who you've had agreements with in the past then fight for your compensation ? dawntredder
I have just sacked the company I was using they did not for me apart from tell me someone else had taken over my claim coz they were going into administration.... Everytime asking me to sign new forms so they could have there 25% of the monies received and I never heard nothing else in 2years its now with the ombudsman after 21/2years mines bit more complicated than most! Do it yourself they are just a pack of low life's looking for quick money!!! Atb.

If you're unsure who you've taken credit out with, it might help to take a look at your credit report at a credit reference agency like Equifax. They'll only hold so many years history but its a start. For older stuff you could track down info about the payments you've made using old bank statements. Paul T
How many years can you go back to claim?I claimed against HSBC this year and the loan was from 2000. I just got a form online from them and sent it in. I got £770 back. Loan was only for £3k so worth doing. Don't use a 3rd party company - you don't need one. klatuveradanikto
I used a company call "STAKE MY CLAIM" I got nearly 10,000 pounds back. They went back years to loans and banks i had forgot about. I know you can claim yourself but i feel the extra knowledge they have about your finance the better they can help you .It cost 20 percent of the redress but they did all the work and as far as i;m concerned it was well worth it. Just my opinion.
MartynGT4
not advisable to use these type of company's to check your credit history or rating, it will affect your credit scoring. Can I ask why you believe this? I've been using them for years for identity theft protection purposes and it hasn't affected my credit 'score' in the slightest. Applying for credit too regularly would affect your score as a pattern of regular credit application searches would be viewed negatively but checking your own credit report is not viewed the same way and those type of searches are not shared with lenders. Penalising customers for using their services doesn't strike me as being a particularly viable long-term business model. http://www.experian.com/blogs/ask-experian/2013/08/16/the-effect-on-credit-scores-when-you-check-your-own-credit-report/ https://help.equifax.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/136/~/common-negative-credit-score-reasons Edited October 25, 2015 by MartynGT4
JimLondon
Ring your bank and tell them you think you've been mis sold PPI. I did and they sent me a form to which I answered most questions with I can't remember or don't know. A few weeks later I got £4000 the Mrs did the same and got £2000. norfolk dumpling
Many years ago my old company bought an insurer who specialised in PPI cover, fronting these for banks before they had the authorisation to do it themselves. I couldn't work out why claims only represented 2/3% of premiums but profit share cheques to bank huge!!!!! For that reason alone I never bought any credit where 'protection' included. But they still hound me to get my compensation.
